It is the press launch of Anne Curtis’s E! News Asia Special, and everyone is understandably excited. After all, the actress is the first Filipina to have a dedicated special on the global entertainment news channel. It is a huge honor that many wouldn’t hesitate to hold over the madlang people’s heads. But Anne, who is wearing a beautiful dress by local designer Francis Libiran, appears genuinely thrilled and grateful with the announcement. With her undeniable status as an It girl, it is almost too easy to forget that Anne hasn’t always been the huge star that she is today.
“It wasn't an overnight success,” the Showtime host says of her rise to fame. “I didn't win a competition. I really started with being the sister of Kim Delos Santos and Antoinette Taus, being the sister of Chubi Del Rosario back in the day and it all paid off I think. And I think that's what keeps me grounded, and it makes me appreciate what I have now because I got to experience everything to get where I am.”
With 16 years in the show business, Anne has certainly had a lot of time to adjust to stardom. For her, it was exactly how she would have wanted her life to be if she had to do it all over again. “I mean, I wish none of the, you know, controversy happened but [that’s] part of it, and I guess that's what also made me a real person,” she says. “It was a normal teenage life. I didn't have to have a squeaky clean image where you have to protect—you have to hide who you really are because of an image, and I wasn't that person growing up, so I wouldn't change it. No.”
There is really no doubt that Anne has become one of the biggest stars in the industry today. As the nation’s darling, she has proven herself to be a veritable actress (she won a Best Actress award for Baler from the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival), a fan favorite (she has over five million Twitter followers) and a bankable superstar (she endorses everything from shoes to real estate). We couldn’t help but ask if she actually has any free time left and what she does when the opportunity arises.
“I stay in my pajamas ‘til 4:00 P.M.,” she answers candidly. “Hindi naliligo, as in couch potato! You know when you go through all the channels and you're not really watching anything, you're just going through—I do that.”
The actress also admits to spending a lot of time on her phone, especially with apps like Twitter, Instagram, Snapseed, and even Candy Crush. “The one that I really love now is the one associated with the school that I'm studying at,” she gushes. “It's called BB Blackboard, and it's amazing! I mean it takes studying to a whole different level!”
Anne is currently enrolled in an Education course in Open Universities Australia, and it is quite obvious that she has really taken to her schooling. In an earlier article, she admits that it might take her more than four years before she could graduate as she still has to manage her career, but we are certain that she’ll pull through quite wonderfully. “Enjoy who you are. Enjoy what you're doing. Have a dream. Pursue that dream with patience and with faith in yourself and that would give you the confidence,” she shares.
The 30-minute E! News Asia Special will premiere on September 29, 2013, 7:30 P.M., on SkyCable Channel 57, Cignal Channel 25, and Cablelink Channel 33.
