It's dengue season again in the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) has recorded 20,000 cases of dengue from January to June this year--a 45 percent increase from last year’s 13,000, ABS-CBNNews.com reports. And thanks to the rainy weather, the number is continuously increasing. Even celebrities aren’t spared from the wiles of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. Teen actor Enchong Dee, who currently plays the role of Caloy in primetime series Magkaribal, was hospitalized last week for contracting dengue fever, ABS-CBNNews.com reports. "I am getting better now,” he is quoted as saying. "Hopefully, I will be discharged soon so I could get back to work.” This is the second time that the young star has gotten the disease. Worried that your children might have contracted dengue? According to Dr. Eric Tayag, Chief of the DOH National Epidemiology Center, some of the symptoms of the disease are a high fever, rashes, vomiting, stomach pains, nosebleeds, and difficulty breathing. Immediately consult the family doctor or bring your child to the hospital if he or she starts showing these symptoms. The earlier the disease is detected, the better.
