PEP.ph recounted how Dingdong Dantes proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Marian Rivera, on her self-titled show, Marian.
Marian celebrated her birthday with her fans and family. One of her special guests was no other than the love of her life, Dingdong.
In one segment of the show, Dingdong showed their happy moments in a video montage, and when a scene of a butterfly dome appeared, Marian's eyes started welling up in tears.
Dingdong shared that the footage was taken in the Butterfly Pavilion at MGM Macau where he celebrated his birthday last 2012 with his family and Marian. In the video, Dindong whispered something in Marian’s ear, which made the actress cry. At this point, Dingdong requested for the video to be paused.
Dingdong began his revelation, “May kailangan akong aminin, may kailangan akong sabihin sa iyo. Pero allow me to do it right this time. And I wanna do it right this time…”
Dingdong went down on one knee, and the audience started to shriek with happiness. Marian, on the other hand, couldn’t stop crying. Right now, wala na akong mahihiling pang iba. There’s nothing that I want and to ask for, but to settle down and have a family. Yan, sa tagal ng pagsasama natin may isang bagay na malinaw sa akin—that I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
He pulled out a small box from his suit, and opened it to reveal a huge Harry Winston rock. He continues, "I offer you this gift on your birthday, something that’s beyond any material thing or tangible want, but I offer myself, my love today and all the days of my life. So please, Marian, will you be my wife?”
Marian did not reply. Instead, she kissed Dingdong, and hugged him tight. Dingdong then placed the ring on her finger. Then, he introduced Marian to the audience as his fiancée for the first time, "Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present to you, my fiancée… the birthday girl in her last dance with me before we become one—the soon to be Marian Gracia Dantes." The newly engaged coupled danced to Coldplay’s "Viva La Vida."
After the commercial gap, Marian and Dingdong are together with their respective families onstage and Marian co-hosts, Paolo Ballesteros, Julie Anne San Jose, and Christian Bautista.
Paolo asked for a short message from Marian’s grandmother and mom and Dingdong’s mother. Amelia Rivera, Marian’s mother, is overjoyed, while grandmother Francesca can’t wait to have an apo from Marian and Dingdong.
“Welcome to our family,” Mrs. Dantes told Marian.
Dingdong asked, “Is that a yes?”
Marian answered, “Yes!”
Hashtags like #DongYan, #lastdance, and #onedance started to trend on Twitter like a lightning bolt not only in the Philippines, but worldwide, too.
Congratulations, Marian and Dingdong!
