Diether Ocampo has denied the report that John Lloyd Cruz had confronted him. Diether apparently threw a vase at the latter's girlfriend, Angelica Panganiban, while filming their teleserye, Apoy Sa Dagat. According to the rumor, Angelica had immediately called John Lloyd to tell him about the incident, which led to an argument between the two actors.

“Whatever is happening on the set, parte 'yan ng proseso para masiguro namin na maganda ang maipalabas namin,” Diether was quoted by PEP.ph as saying. "Whether it's difficult or madali, lahat 'yan kasama. Kung ano man ang naglabasan na hindi maganda, I can assure you that nothing like that really happened (Whatever is happening on the set is part of the process, so we can ensure that we can put on a good show. Whether it’s difficult or easy, it’s all part of it. Despite the negative rumors, I can assure you that nothing like that really happened.).”

Diether also said that he had never been at odds with Angelica, whom he calls ‘bes’ as a term of endearment.

“I can consider Angelica as one of my best friends in showbiz. Hindi lahat tinatawag ko ng 'bes.' Kapag ganoon, mabigat 'yon,” he claimed. "Si Angelica, naggo-grow din ang tao, madami din siyang pinagdadaanan sa personal na buhay niya (I don’t call everyone ‘bes.’ That’s really meaningful. Angelica has also grown as a person, and she is going through a lot in her personal life.). I just want her to know that we are all here. I'm one of those many friends of yours who are willing to support you no matter what.”
