After making a name for herself as an international recording artist, Filipina singer Charice has added another feather to her cap by starring alongside Kevin James and Salma Hayek in Here Comes the Boom, a new Hollywood film about a teacher who is trying to raise funds for his school’s music program. Charice plays a talented student named Malia de la Cruz, a role which got her a lot of positive feedback, Inquirer.net reports.

Associated Press’ David Germain said that Charice “adds adorability as a bright and earnest student.”

Even Kevin, who plays Charice’s teacher in the film, had commended the Filipina star. “My girl Charice rocks it,” he had remarked. “She’s unbelievable, you’ll see.”

Online Film Critics Society member Dustin Putman is all praises for the Pinay star’s acting prowess and her rendition of Neil Diamond’s “Holly Holy.” “Charice brings such honesty and emotion to the screen that one can't help but care about her,” he wrote on his website. “Charice is a star in the making with a smile that could light up a New York City blackout.”
