Ben Affleck is on “great terms” with his estranged wife Jennifer Garner following their split last summer.
The former couple has kept quiet about its relationship since announcing a separation in June, but Jennifer recently broke her silence in a candid interview with Vanity Fair magazine.
In the personal chat, she debunked rumors suggesting the pair’s 10-year marriage was shattered by an alleged affair between Ben and their 28-year-old childminder, Christine Ouzounian – accusations the actor also blasted at the time of the break-up.
“Let me just tell you something: we had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny,” the mother-of-three told Vanity Fair. “She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation.”
Jennifer went on to admit Ben would always remain “the love of my life”, and insisted she had no regrets about tying the knot with her Daredevil movie co-star, lamenting, “He’s just a complicated guy.”
Now Ben has shared his thoughts on the interview with the New York Times, revealing he was given a heads-up about its release. He also admitted he can understand why Jennifer wanted to clear everything up in one big chat.
“She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with,” he explained. “So she could say, ‘Look, I already talked about it – I don’t want to do it again.’”
However, that doesn’t mean Ben is comfortable discussing his high-profile love split – he resisted addressing it in public “for the sake of his three children”, according to the Times.
“Because it ends up being in the record somewhere, in the great miasma of junk on the Internet,” Ben reasoned.
He did eventually touch on the current status of the exes’ relationship, insisting they are still working as a team to raise their kids.
“Jen’s great. She’s a great person,” the 43-year-old stated. “We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.”
The estranged couple is reportedly still living together, with Ben occupying a guest house on the grounds of the stars’ marital home, so he can stay close to their children, Violet, 10, Seraphina, seven, and Samuel, four.
