Here’s a life-saving tip to remember the next time you go on a trip: Don’t be too enthusiastic to spend all your money on your first day out. Sure, it might seem obvious, but the allure of a foreign place, with all the cool trinkets and pasalubong-worthy items you can find at every corner, can get even the best of us. Just take it from Bea Alonzo who recently recalled once having to spend a whole stay in Dubai without any money.
Nostalgic to travel again, the actress recently took to her YouTube channel to round up her top 10 favorite destinations. Amongst them was Dubai in UAE, and apart from the friendly Pinoys in the city, the desert safari, the Burj Khalifa, and getting to visit the world’s largest shopping mall, Bea distinctly remembers the locale thanks to an unfortunate mishap that she experienced there years ago.
Upon arriving at the city for a work trip, Bea recalled feeling too tired to tour around on their first day. Hence, she stayed in her hotel room to sleep while her mom shopped at the Gold Souk, a commercial jewelry market place, with the rest of their group. “Wala pa kong credit card nito,” shared the actress. “When my mom arrived at the hotel, ang dami na niyang dalang alahas… Meron din siya for my brother, for my lola…” When Bea asked her mom where the rest of her talent fee had gone, she had apparently spent them all!
“Nagastos na niya lahat sa Gold Souk,” she continued. “Buong one week namin sa Dubai wala kaming pera.” Strapped for cash, Bea and her mother spent the rest of their stay in the city being treated for meals by John Lloyd Cruz! “Binayaran naman namin siya pagdating namin sa Manila.” Bea, who can now laugh off the memory, was so thankful that she even flashed a photo of the actor in her video with the caption: "Life saver!"
After the incident, both mother and daughter finally decided to apply for credit cards of their own. She concluded her Dubai story with a reminder for her viewers: “Dapat sa first day [on a trip] hindi mo muna ginagastos lahat ng pera mo.” Lesson learned, indeed, Bea!
