Taiwanese actress and Meteor Garden star Barbie Hsu has filed for divorce from Chinese husband Wang Xiaofei after more than 10 years of being married.
The couple, whose separation was first rumored in June this year, has released an official statement through their lawyers.
The statement said: ”After serious and careful consideration, Mr. Wang and Ms. Hsu have decided to divorce amicably and have begun related legal proceedings.
“Mr. Wang and Ms. Hsu had the joy of meeting and knowing each other and spent a wonderful time together. Even as they separate now, they are thankful for what they have given each other. In the past, they walked as spouses. In the future, they will be parents and friends. They will continue to raise their children together and give them all their love and support.”
A separate report by Mirror Media stated that Barbie has formally filed a petition in early November, asking to divide assets worth approximately NT$950 million (over PHP1.7 billion), including real estate properties and a hotel.
A friend of the actress was cited saying that Barbie has decided to pursue the divorce due to three reasons: polarizing values, a long-distance set-up, and Wang’s political comments directed against Taiwan, which led to repeated clashes between the two.
Barbie and Wang tied the knot in 2011 and have a daughter and a son born in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
