It's official: We won't be seeing Angel Locsin as Darna on the big screen anymore.
According to Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos in an interview with ABS-CBN News, the 31-year old beauty won't be playing the role of the iconic character due to health reasons.
"Sobrang nalungkot kasi nung una, nung nalaman namin na mayroon siyang problema sa likod, sinabihan na namin siya na she cannot play Darna. But, because deep in our hearts na siya lang ang pwedeng maging Darna, we gave her the chance and she promised to do the therapy na magpapagaling siya para sa kanyang likod," Santos said.
Although fans were excited to see the Third Party star in action, management shares that Angel's health is more important and they wouldn't want to put her at risk.
"So ito na ang pinaka-final verdict na she cannot play Darna kasi mas importante ang buhay niya kaysa sa pelikula na Darna. So ang iisipin ko na lang at least napatunayan niya 'yung dedikasyon niya sa craft niya," Santos added.
It was just two years ago when she had to undergo surgery in Singapore for a developing disc bulge in her spine.
Despite the sad news, it seems like the actress has accepted the fact that she will no longer star in Darna but she is hoping that her fans will give the one who'll replace her the same love and support she has received.
"Sana maintinidhan niyo kami, hindi po madali. Alam kong nilaban niyo ito pero kailangan na siguro natin talaga na harapin ang katotohanan at mag-move on sa magandang mangyayari. So maraming, maraming salamat. 'Di ko makakalimutan ang suportang ibinigay niyo sa akin at suportahan natin ang susunod na magiging Darna," she said.
