Star Cinema managing director Malou Santos has confirmed that actress Angel Locsin, who has played the role of Darna in the 2005 GMA teleserye, will once again be donning the Filipina superhero’s iconic costume for an upcoming movie.

“For Darna, we’re already done with the story of her past. We’re already brainstorming. We’re targeting next year for filming,” Santos was quoted as saying in an interview with Manila Bulletin, adding that they are aiming to give the audience a modern-day interpretation of the popular heroine.

ABS-CBNNews.com also reports that Angel has expressed her interest in playing Darna again in an earlier interview.

“Ako kasi si Darna, feeling ko talaga eh. Kahit hindi ibigay ulit sa akin ang bato, part na siya ng pagkatao ko,” the actress said. “'Yung magkaroon ako ng opportunity at nagawa ko naman nang maayos 'yung duty ko bilang si Darna, malaking bagay na 'yun sa akin. Pero kung magbabalik ako, okay lang (I really feel that I’m Darna. Even if the stone won’t be given to me again, it’s already a part of my personality. The fact that I had the opportunity and that I was able to do my duty as Darna properly is already a big deal for me. But if I get another chance, it’s okay.).”
