TV5's weekday talk show Face to Face is filled with conflict: insults, accusations, and even footwear flies on set as two opposing parties are given the opportunity to air their grievances against each other in the hope of coming to an amicable resolution. And in the middle of it all is host Amy Perez, who, at 41, can now be dubbed as the Queen of Talakserye. Although we may recognize Good Housekeeping's November 2010 cover girl from her previous roles in telesereyes and her two years hosting Channel 5's Deretsahan, it's Face to Face that has ensured that her face is in the public eye. Besides the controversial daily talk show, she also hosts Untold Stories on Thursday nights and a radio show on 92.3FM, and she stars in Metro Manila Film Festival entry Agimat ni Enteng, opposite Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla.
It seems that "everything's coming up roses" for Amy, but this was not always the case, as she'll readily tell anyone—in fact, the way her life has turned out so far has made her a big believer in second chances. And this isn't just because her career has gotten a second wind. Despite the self-doubt and self-pity she felt in the aftermath of her failed marriage to South Border singer Brix Ferraris, she chanced a second stab at love with Carlo Castillo, a former DZMM radio reporter, who has taken an affectionate and very hands-on role as stepdad to her 13-year-old son, Adi.
In this month's issue of Good Housekeeping, Amy shares how she coped with the challenges life brought her, and her tips on how other moms can discover that "talagang there is sunshine after the rain, always."

1. ON SURVIVING SINGLE MOTHERHOOD
"If you're a single mom, you really need to have strong faith in God and solid direction in your life. For family and friends of single moms, give total emotional support to them kasi when you're a single mom, ikaw lang lahat--financially, emotionally, lahat."
2. ON TEACHING YOUR KID NOT TO HATE AN ABSENTEE PARENT
"Never, never, never lie or tell your kid a story na hindi totoo. It's better to tell him the whole truth. Don't underestimate your kid because kids today are so intelligent. They ask you why, when, what happened, so be open."
3. ON RAISING A WELL-ROUNDED KID FROM A WELL-OFF BACKGROUND
Don't spoil your kids with unessential luxuries. Amy's son, Adi, has only recently started wearing branded sneakers. "Importante meron siyang nagagamit, not the brand. Bakit ako bibili ng branded? Yung bata, lalaspagin lang naman yan after a month," explains the budget-savvy mom.
4. ON INTRODUCING A NEW LOVE TO YOUR KID
"Adi's always known when I was going out on dates, because I've always told him. But hindi ko ipinapakilala sa kanya yung mga dini-date ko unless I was sure that the guy was serious, that he cold be a father to Adi."
5. ON PLAYING THE STRESSFUL ROLE OF "PEACEMAKER"
Deal with stress with a mental switch. "Paglabas ko ng studio, I switch it all off and leave it there because I have to be with my boys at home." On a deeper level, peacemakers should practice patience and remain open-minded.
