Everyone’s favorite singing talent search makes a comeback to the small screens today as American Idol (AI) Season 10 begins. And with Simon Cowell out of the picture, this marks the beginning of a new era in Idol history. This season, MTV.com reports that two new judges have come on board: Aerosmith vocalist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Tyler and actress and Grammy Award-winning singer Jennifer Lopez.  

Along with the changes in the panel of judges, there will also be no weekly mentors this year, a downer for Idol aficionados who have been looking forward to more guest stars this year. Instead, Interscope Geffen A&M Records chairman Jimmy Iovine will be guiding the contestants behind the scenes. Fans can still dream of adding a rotating guest judge to the panel, however, as last season’s AI had four people sitting behind the table.
