The morning of December 20 found Filipinos all over the nation glued to their television sets to watch the 2012 Ms. Universe pageant. The whole country hoped that Ms. Philippines Janine Tugonon would be able to finally bring home the highly coveted crown, but in the end, it was Ms. USA Olivia Culpo who was given the title.

When the announcement was made, many of the country’s top celebrities immediately took to the social networking sites to express their thoughts about the results. A large number sent congratulatory messages to Janina, saying that she still made the Philippines proud despite her runner-up finish. Others also expressed their disappointment over the results, believing that the country’s bet deserved to win the crown more than Ms. USA did.
