Two days ago, Philippine contestant Maria Venus Raj made it into the Top 5 of the Miss Universe 2010 pageant held in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, despite being the crowd favorite, Venus lost her shot for the crown after a tricky question and answer portion, placing her as the 4th runner-up.
Despite not winning the title of Miss Universe, however, yesterday, the Senate passed Resolution No. 140 while its counterpart, House Resolution 287, was filed in Congress. The resolutions commended Venus for placing in the competition's Top 5 and showing the world the "spirit of Filipino beauty, excellence, and grace," as Sen. Lito Lapid is quoted as saying in this GMANews.TV article.
While Venus has garnered much praise for making it so far in the world's premiere beauty pageant, a lot of people are still singing the shoulda-woulda-couldas about her response to the final round question. If you will recall, Venus was asked what the biggest mistake of her life had been and what she had done to fix it, to which she replied, “In my 22 years of existence, I can say that (I haven't had a major, major problem) because I am very confident with my family and the love that they are giving to me so thank you so much that I am here. Thank you so much.”
