Angel Capili, Jr., who allegedly killed Ricky Pempengco, father of singing sensation Charice, surrendered to the police on November 3, PEP.ph reports. Pempengco was stabbed repeatedly with an ice pick on the night of October 30.

"Kusa siyang [Capili] sumuko sa barangay, at ang barangay tinurn-over sa amin (He willingly surrendered to the barangay, and the barangay turned him over to us)," Mayor Luis Ferrer IV of General Trias, Cavite, told radio station dzBB in an interview. "Sa amin siya sumuko para magarantiyahan ang safety niya. (He surrendered to us to guarantee his safety.)"

Capili told Mayor Ferrer that he didn't know the victim personally. Pempengco supposedly punched him, which forced Capili to defend himself. "Saka niya [Capili] nalaman na tatay ni Charice sa news sa TV. Nabigla, di niya alam ang gagawin. (Capili only found out the victim was Charice's dad when he saw the news on TV. He was surprised. He didn't know what to do.)"

His statement contradicts previous information released by the police, in which they said Capili and Pempengco had had a fight in 2005.

According to PEP.ph, the reward for giving information leading to Capili's capture was raised from P100,000 to P200,000 on November 2. Mayor Ferrer refused to mention who would be receiving the money.
