Find out how you can enjoy ife while taking care of your body with these tips from Maricel Laxa.
1. DRINK WATER
“Drink at least eight glasses a day and take it first thing in the morning.” It doesn't just replenish your body, it helps you lose weight too!
2. EAT RIGHT
“Eat your meat with veggies to aid in digestion.” Avoid mixing starchy carbohydrate-rich foods with your meat, though, because it will only make you get heartburn and feel bloated. That means it's time to curb your love for meat and potatoes--and tell your hubby while you're at it too.
3. EAT ON TIME
“It’s better to have a small snack than miss a meal.” If you absolutely have to skip lunch because of work, munch on celery or carrot sticks to make sure your stomach still gets to digest food.
4. CONSUME FOOD RICH IN FIBER
“It cleanses your colon and everything flows naturally.” Not only is it good for your health, it can help you if you're on a diet too. As Women's Health editor-in-chief and FN blogger Lara Parpan says, "That’s because there are less calories in foods rich in water and fiber and they can make you feel full faster." So stock up on green salads and broth-based soups!
5. GO OUT IN THE SUN
“Don’t be afraid to get dark. We need the sun for vitamin D.” There's no need to shy away from a healthy dose of sunlight. Just don't forget to put on some sunscreen to protect you from harmful ultraviolet rays.
6. GET FRESH AIR
“Go to the mountains or a nearby park.” If you have a pooch, take this as an opportunity to get him out and about too. You get the double perks of fresh air for yourself and exercise for your pet.
7. EXERCISE
“Do it at least 30 minutes a day.” Having trouble sticking to your schedule? Check out model Georgina Wilson's exercise secrets on FN.
8. CONSUME EVERY THING IN MODERATION
“I allow my kids to have junk food on Sundays only.” This is not only a great tip to keep your kids eating healthy, but it's something you should follow too. This not only helps you lead by example, but you'll be eating better too—without having to completely give up those yummy yet unhealthy foods.
9. SPEND TIME ALONE
“When you improve your spirituality, you’ll live a long life.” So take a break from your busy schedule and go on a personal retreat. It will assuage your fears about life and give you clarity.
10. REST
“Don’t forget to take it easy once in a while.” Relax and have fun—it helps boost your immune system and keeps you happy and fulfilled.
