TV host Kris Aquino now joins the list of celebrities who have publicly declared their support of the controversial Reproductive Health Bill.Kris declared her support of the RH Bill during a live episode of her show, Kris TV, which featured Happy Feet, one of the top five winning acts on Pilipinas Got Talent, PEP.ph reports.
Ramoncito and Lordito Mata, the siblings who make up Happy Feet, shared how their childhood was marked by poverty because their parents had no means to support them as well as their seven other siblings. According to the brothers, they now rely on the financial support given by another of their siblings, who works as a domestic helper in Hong Kong.
Kris expressed her disappointment and said that this was just one example of why the RH bill should be supported.
In an interview with PEP.ph, Kris said, "Yung kwento na lang ng Happy Feet kanina, na nine kids tapos patigil-tigil sa pag-aaral. Hindi makapg-college yung isa dahil kulang sa pondo or hindi makapag-vocational man lang (Take the story of Happy Feet. There are nine kids in the family, but they all had to stop going to school at some point. One of them won't be able to go to college because there are no funds)."
She added, "Reality 'yan, e. And that's because hindi mo binigyan ng adequate knowledge at choice yung couple kung ano'ng gusto nilang gawin (That's the reality because the couple wasn't given adequate knowledge or choices [for birth control])."
Kris went on to say that she is fully aware of the responsibilities of raising a family and the importance of family planning. "The more lives you bring in the more responsibility dun sa mga magulang. Mali yung konsepto na pag malaki yung pamilya, maraming tutulong, kasi kawawa naman yung quality of life nung children. (It's wrong to believe a large family automatically means more workers, because the children's quality of life will suffer)."
