In the aftermath of typhoon Sendong, which left over 1,000 people dead or missing and even more homeless or injured in Mindanao, celebrities joined forces to donate and deliver relief goods, PEP.ph reports. Queen of All Media Kris Aquino led the team that went to Cagayan de Oro for ABS-CBN Sagip Kapamilya Foundation on December 19. The other celebrities who went with her were Angel Locsin, Anne Curtis, and Vice Ganda.
Angel, who was planning to do charity work, for Christmas, and Kris, who was going to give away products she was endorsing at the Metro Manila Film Festival parade, decided to donate what they were going to use to the victims instead. Kris added that even though there was no electricity and water surrounded them as they did relief operations, people still shouted, "Sample!" as they passed by. The term refers to a talent portion on Showtime, a TV show that Vice Ganda and Anne are a part of.
"Talagang love nila tayo, so dapat lang iparamdam natin sa kanila how much we love them (They really love us, so we should show them just how much we love them)," Kris is quoted as saying.
She also thanked the other three celebrities who were with her for volunteering their time. "Saludo talaga ako (I salute them)," she said. Both Vice and Anne canceled previous commitments to go to Cagayan de Oro. "And, of course, si Angel talaga, tuluy-tuloy talaga yung ginagawa niyang pagkalampag sa mga kaibigan niya, lahat ng mga katrabaho, kasi cash ang kailangan na donations. (And Angel is continuously encouraging her friends, all her co-workers, to donate cash because that's what they need here.)"
Meanwhile, Angel and Anne encouraged viewers to help in a separate interview aired on news show Bandila.
"Nandito kami, kaya may may mga camera rito hindi para ipakita na namimigay kami kundi para manghikayat din kami sa mga kababayan natin na mag-share kayo ng blessings niyo tutal magpa-Pasko naman po (We're here and there are cameras with us, not to show that we're giving relief goods, but to encourage our countrymen to share their blessings as well, especially since it's Christmas)," Angel is quoted as saying on ABS-CBNNews.com.
"Ang pinakaimportante sa nakikita ho namin ngayon ay malinis na tubig na puwede mainom (The most important donation we need right now is clean water for drinking)," said Anne.
