Actress Kim Chiu lost her passport at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on April 9 while she was waiting to board her flight for the US for the Star Magic US Tour, ABS-CBNNews.com reports. In an interview with showbiz talk show The Buzz, Kim revealed that she suspected it was the work of thieves who posed as her fans and took pictures with her. “Una nandoon kami tapos may nagpa-picture siksikan, sabi ko bakit ang dikit nila sa akin. 'Ako sige picture tayo ate,' tapos ang bag ko nandiyan, (sa gilid ko) yun pala, kinuha na ang passport ko (We were there, and they wanted to take pictures. It was very tight. I wondered why they crowded so close to me. I said, ‘All right, let’s take pictures together,’ and my bag was at my side. I didn’t know they’d already taken my passport),” Kim is quoted as saying in the report.
Kim alerted NAIA authorities, who deployed employees and alerted the police to help her look for her passport. After two hours, NAIA janitor Melchor Fojas found Kim’s passport in the garbage. Kim believes that the thieves took it because her passport holder looked like a wallet.
Alvin Candelaria of NAIA’s airport operations department reminded passengers to always be on guard. “Huwag silang [maging] complacent. Sa hirap ng buhay, may nagpapanggap at professional, and they take their chance kung may opportunity. At ang mga dokumento, dapat laging hawak. (Don't be complacent. Life is hard, and some people are professionals who take their chance if there are opportunities. Always hold on to your documents.)”
