Female Network sat down with rising star Andi Eigenmann at the launch of her new endorsement for Pond’s Clear Solutions Anti-Bacterial Facial Scrub. The daughter of actress Jacklyn Jose and actor Mark Gil, this showbiz princess officially made her small screen debut last year as the protagonist for the fantaserye Agua Bendita. Months later, she is still as excited as ever about her career in show business. At the interview, a radiant Andi gamely answered our questions and shared her insights on life, beauty, and love. Read on to see what little bits of wisdom this upcoming Galema, Ang Anak ni Zuma star revealed during the interview.
1. BEAUTY STARTS FROM WITHIN.
“Even though it’s kind of [been said so many times], it really is [what’s inside] that counts,” Andi says. Although she notes that how we present ourselves does help people figure out our personalities, what matters most, in the end, is still inner beauty. “Who you are, your principles, what you live by—that’s what makes a person beautiful.”
2. ACCEPT YOURSELF FOR WHO YOU ARE.
Andi believes that the key to beauty and happiness is learning to love yourself. “Even when I was 35 pounds heavier,” she shares, “I’ve always been happy with the way that I look on the outside. I’ve always been happy [with] my own size.”
The actress revealed that she only lost weight in preparation for entering the industry. “Pero hindi ibig sabihin na kinahiya ko yung katawan ko or yung size ko. Kasi healthy naman ako. (But this doesn’t mean I was ashamed of my body or my size. I was healthy.) Hindi naman ibig sabihin na, even when I was on the heavy side before, unhealthy e. Up to now, I’m still like that.”
3. DON’T HOLD GRUDGES.
Although Andi’s parents have been separated since she was a young girl, she doesn't think of it as a huge issue. “I never really felt the absence of my dad. [He] did his role and made it a point to just be there for me every chance he could.” Andi accepted the situation with her family as a part of life.
“People make mistakes,” she says, “and if [that’s just the way it is], then it is. It doesn’t mean na I have to blame my parents for it or make them feel like they didn’t [do a good job] just because they weren’t together.”
4. LEARN TO APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE.
Every person faces obstacles in life, but don’t let them stop you from being happy. For her part, Andi is content with how her life has turned out so far. “Even if I grew up [under] the same roof as only my mom, with only my mom, it was fine,” she says. “She did a good job. I think--I know--I’m able to tell what’s right from wrong, and I’m responsible enough to make sure that I give myself a fulfilling and happy life. And I won’t let it go. I won’t ruin myself. I won’t do stupid things. I think I’m smart enough.”
Andi also prefers to look on the bright side of life, adding, “Plus, if my parents didn’t separate, I wouldn’t have awesome brothers and sisters!”
5. KEEP THINGS SIMPLE—INCLUDING YOUR BEAUTY REGIMEN.
Keep yourself stress-free by maintaining a positive attitude and steering clear of complications. Andi, for example, remains an easygoing lady despite her busy life in showbiz. This can be seen in her candid manner when answering questions—and in the simplicity of her beauty rituals. Andi only wears makeup when she has work to do; otherwise, she prefers to keep things natural. “Ever since I was young, wala talaga,” she says of her regimen. “I just wash my face with facial wash. That’s it.”
