Actress Jennylyn Mercado’s traumatizing childhood is no secret, having been revealed on her first foray into showbiz on Starstruck, GMA-7’s reality artista search, years ago. After her mom and dad split up, Jen’s mom, Jinkee, left her to work abroad. She was adopted by Mommy Lydia, who was revealed to be Jinkee's cousin and who cared for Jen until Jinkee returned to the Philippines and took her back. In Jen’s tell-all interview with YES! for their June 2011 issue, it was revealed that Mommy Lydia adopted Jen after it was discovered that she was being abused by her mom’s new partner. The incident was so severe it was even reported in the newspapers.On June 5, Jinkee appeared on talk show The Buzz to air her side of the story. PEP.ph reports that Jinkee did not allow herself to be captured fully on film as a form of protection for her family. In her interview, she revealed that she and Jennylyn have been in communication for months now, which made her wonder why Jen had chosen this moment to start talking about the past.
Asked about why she neglected Jen, Jinkee was quoted as saying, “No, it's a lie. I have proof to show you. I did send money to Jennylyn through Lydia. I have actual proof that I have provided [for] her financially. Okay, fine, I'm not there with her physically, that's true, but I have provided her financially all those times. I thought I was doing the right thing.” She also claimed she and Mommy Lydia were unrelated and that in fact, Lydia had been inhibiting her from communicating with her daughter.
As for reports that Jennylyn was physically abused by Jinkee’s partner when she was young, Jinkee said, “I can’t relate to this question. You have to find this guy. I want to meet this man.” She added, “It didn’t happen.”
She also gave her reaction to Jennylyn’s emotional statements about not experiencing real love from her. “Why can't Jennylyn ask Noli, yung biological father niya?" She told Jen to ask her father how this all happened. "Because she can't put the blame just on me. Hindi lang ako at ako ang nakikita (Not like this, where I'm the only one who seems to be at fault).” She ended with the clincher, “She knows better. She knows the truth.”
PEP.ph reports that Jennylyn will be answering her mom’s allegations in an interview on Showbiz Central on Sunday.
