Sam Pinto might only be 21, but she's accomplished so much in just two years, thanks to her determination and her cheerful outlook in life. She's come a long way from her days as a housemate on the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) in 2009. Besides regularly starring in GMA-7 shows, she was Sen. Bong Revilla's leading lady in the movie Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote last year, and just this July, she was crowned FHM Philippines's Sexiest Woman in the World. In Women's Health Philippines's August 2011 issue, Sam candidly talks about her experiences in life from her sheltered childhood to her first brave steps into the showbiz world. What advice can this young stunner give to women aspiring for success just like herself? Read on for 5 life lessons from Sam Pinto.
1. FACE YOUR FEARS.
"Why not?" This was what Sam said when she was asked to audition for PBB in 2009. Although she was already doing well as a model, going on PBB exposed her to a whole new world, an experience she welcomed and learned from despite being sheltered. "I was so proud of myself,” she says. “It was a pat on the back for me, because I’ve never been without my family."
2. LOVE YOUR FAMILY.
Sam has a tight bond with her mom, a closeness that some showbiz naysayers find odd. But her experiences when her parents separated when she was six taught Sam how important family is, and she keeps them close. Her mom has always been person who provides Sam with strength and comfort, even when she is going through a rough time herself.
3. SEIZE THE DAY.
While being in showbiz was never in Sam's plans, she knows a good opportunity when she sees one, and she's not about to let it pass. "This whole artista thing, it’s not given to everyone. So why not take it?" She adds, "Sayang talaga yung opportunity. Ngayon sa showbiz, hot pa yung pangalan ko, so dito muna ako. (You'll waste the opportunity if you don't take it. My name's still hot in showbiz right now, so I'm staying in this field.) I’ll do my best here, see where it takes me."
4. CHALLENGE YOURSELF.
Sam is aware of her weaknesses, and she's working hard to improve herself. After all, you're not going to get anywhere if you don't constantly challenge yourself. "I don’t want to be remembered as just another pretty face," she says. "Iba naman, mag-next level na tayo. Acting naman. I’d like to be one of them artistas na sobrang galing! (I want to to level up and be different. This time, I want to try acting. I'd like to be one of those artists that are really good!)”
5. DO THE THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY.
Sam loves food and sports, and she makes it a point to indulge herself in her favorite things whenever she can. A hearty eater, Sam eats whatever she wants in small portions. As for sports, swimming has always been special to her. “I love [swimming]. Nakaka-cure talaga siya ng stress. (It really helps cure stress.)"
