Yessa, an entrepreneur and indoor cycling instructor, and Paco, an entrepreneur, tied the knot in an intimate and magical wedding in Bali. We talked to the bride.
Tell us about how you met.
Paco and I were introduced at a picnic at Central Park in New York in 2009 while we were both based there. He claims that he was immediately attracted to me that fateful day at the Strawberry Fields.
What do you love most about each other?
We make each other laugh like no one else can, the kind of laugh that brings tears to your eyes and makes your belly ache. We really are each other's best friends at the end of the day. Our travels and the memories we've created with each other in foreign places pintxo-crawling in San Sebastian, skiing down a powdery mountain in Niseko, or sharing a bottle of our favorite wine in Paris make simple moments special.
How did he propose?
Paco proposed to me at the W Sentosa in Singapore where we were checked in for the weekend. I was sitting on the edge of the bathtub waiting for the water for my bubble bath to cool when he approached me, reached into his right pocket, went down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. He sheepishly admitted that he planned to propose at the Coachella Music Festival in California the following month but could no longer wait when he received the ring he had ordered. It was the sweetest surprise of my life.
Tell us about your favorite moment from your wedding.
Paco and I closed the dinner reception with an impromptu performance of Fun's We Are Young, with all our loved ones waving their hands in the air and singing along at the top of their lungs. Serendipitously, fireworks from another party suddenly appeared in the background, cascading the sky with a symphony of lights. It was epic.
