Nothing beats the excitement of a jaw-dropping dress reveal once the bride walks down the aisle. So when we came across this stunning white jumpsuit on Mark Bumgarner’s Instagram, we immediately stopped scrolling and had to know more. “I always wanted to wear a pantsuit on my wedding day. A decision I made years back when I was still single in 2016 even before I started dating my husband. Easiest decision I made during the wedding preps,” bride Avon Favis tells Preview in this exclusive interview.
Her custom jumpsuit by the local designer perfectly complemented her French-Italian themed garden wedding, that she described as a celebration filled with flowers, champagne towers, and orchestra music. The impeccably tailored pantsuit was all about clean lines in the front—accented by a classic boat neckline—but featured a sexy low back that was topped off with a massive bow and a dramatic train. From behind, you’d think she was wearing a gown and not a pair of pants!
Avon then finished off her bridal outfit with a sleek side-part low bun and a glamorous but pared down makeup look that tied everything together beautifully. Simple but high-impact.
On working with the seasoned designer, the bride could not have asked for a better couturier to bring her dream “wedding suit” to life. “Mark embodies my two favorite words: precision and perfection. He creates a piece of art that doesn’t take the light out from the bride. He created a gown that delicately personified who I am as woman. The design is tamely feminine but fierce. Simple but grandiose. Sleek and uncomplicated all at the same time.”
But if you think her style choice was all about comfort or aesthetics, Avon has a far more empowering reason behind her frock. “Why a pantsuit you may ask? Totally inspired by the infamous phrase ‘Who wears the pants?’ It makes a powerful statement about a woman’s role in a relationship—in marriage. It embodies collaboration, equitability, and impartiality in a partnership. It removes submission in the equation.” Avon shares.
“I am blessed to have found a husband, a lover, a best friend who allows me to hold the fort with him, co-shares his energy and dominance with me, and empowers me to be limitless as a woman in the relationship and as a woman of the society.”
If anything, Avon proves that the best wedding dresses are those that reflects a bride’s personality rather than simply looking pretty, and that women can literally and figuratively “wear the pants.”
