Kensington Palace announced via Twitter that the Duchess of Sussex was wearing Queen Mary's diamond bandeau tiara:
According to People, "Queen Mary, wife of King George V, bought this small diamond bandeau from luxury London jeweler Garrard in 1925. After her death, the tiara was inherited by her daughter-in-law, Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Princess Margaret, has also worn the tiara."
And yes, it's as extravagant as it seems. As the website of the Royal Family notes, "The bandeau, which is made of diamonds and platinum, is formed as a flexible band of eleven sections, pierced with interlaced ovals and pavé set with large and small brilliant diamonds. The centre is set with a detachable brooch of ten brilliant diamonds."
The Duchess matched the historic piece with understated Cartier earrings and a bracelet.
