In lieu of the traditional white-and-pink rose garden theme, Kris Bernal had Gideon Hermosa spin the Magallanes Church into a dazzling sunflower field. "Actually, sunflower is the only flower requested by Kris. So I came up with the idea na gawing sunflower field yung ceremony and reception. The sunflower symbolizes positivity and good luck and lasting happiness," Gideon told Preview.
"It was challenging though 'cause di na season ng sunflower kasi hindi na summer," Gideon explained. '"So we had to fly sunflowers from China and Bukidnon, then others from Benguet and Tagaytay."
Kris's bouquet, too, diverged from the usual, which would have been bunched roses sheathed in leafy greens. Hers was made out of dainty lemon-hued blooms, which weren't sunflowers, but still fit the motif seamlessly. "Her bouquet was made of zentedesia flowers and dancing lady orchids to add texture. Since sunflower all over na ang venue, I decided to use other types para maiba and to match Mak Tumang gown," Gideon said. "She is petite kasi diba? So dapat slim din ang bouquet (smaller than her waist)." Gideon also explained that he didn't want the bouquet to "ruin" or outshine Kris' lovely dress. For what it's worth, we think that the shape and movement of the orchids actually mirrored the demure waves of the gown's sleeves.
In the language of flowers, Zentendesia, or Calla Liliy symbolizes beauty, purity, faithfulness, and rebirth. Meanwhile orchids represent love, luxury, beauty and strength.
To say that the floral arrangements were a success is an understatement. When the church doors first spun open to reveal Kris framed beneath the arched foliage, we gasped. So, so gorgeous!
