Rochelle and Karlou marked their Tagaytay wedding with unexpected takes on wedding traditions. With a chic and laid-back theme, their outdoor wedding showcased their personalities, and more importantly, highlighted their love.

Love Story
Rochelle and Karlou met through mountain climbing. Rochelle was invited by a friend to join the anniversary climb of a mountaineering group called Boondockers, where Karlou is a member. One hour into their climb of Mt. Gulugod Baboy in Batangas, Rochelle found herself under a tree, trying to catch her breath. Karlou then came up to her and asked how she was. Tired from the climb, Rochelle just looked at him, and Karlou walk away. The two didn't get to talk to one another again for the rest of the climb.
The two met on several occasions after that first climb, but they never really conversed--until they both joined the climb at Mt. Marami in Cavite. "That's [when] I learned that he's not that bad of a company. We've been chatting and texting since then," recalls Rochelle. A few months later, Rochelle asked Karlou out to watch a movie, which sparked the beginning of their fruitful relationship, and eventually, romance blossomed.
A year into their relationship, Karlou decided to ask for Rochelle's hand in marriage. As Seventh Day Adventists, the two found a ring unnecessary to seal their engagement or union. Instead, Karlou decided to get creative and propose with the help of some DVDs.
Five days before Karlou left for Japan, he and Rochelle went out on a dinner date to celebrate their anniversary. Karlou gifted her a DVD set of the X-Men Trilogy, which was Rochelle's favorite. When Rochelle opened the DVD case, she was surprised to see an extra CD, which bore the words: "Marry me please." "I can't even remember how I felt that moment, but he told me later on that I was just staring at him blankly. It took me a few seconds before I could utter the words ‘Yes,'" Rochelle shares. Rochelle's reply assured Karlou that he was successful in finding the best alternative to an engagement ring.

Rochelle and Karlou wanted a wedding that was laid-back, unique, and fun-filled. With these in mind, the couple went for a country-inspired wedding. Their outdoor wedding complemented the cheery summer weather, which provided the perfect ambiance for the celebration. With a tangerine, cocoa, powder blue, and white color palette, the couple's wedding exhibited a chic and bubbly vibe.
The couple also marked their Tagaytay wedding with new spins on time-honored wedding traditions. The couple's entourage were mainly composed of their immediate family, and they also made sure that their primary sponsors were those who are really close to them and have made an impact on their relationship as a couple.
Aside from having a fresh perspective on selecting their entourage, Rochelle and Karlou also incorporated unusual elements in their wedding. After the ceremony, the couple released a couple of white chickens instead of the usual doves. Come the reception, the couple replaced the traditional wine toast with a "Zesto toast," which featured the couple and their guests toasting with packed juice drinks. And in lieu of the cake-cutting ceremony, the couple cut a log instead. "While I was browsing the web, I saw this unique wedding tradition in Germany: log-cutting. Using a big saw to cut the log, both the husband and wife should know how to give (push) and take (pull). This also represents the first obstacle that the couple must overcome in their marriage," the bride explains.
With all its quirks, Rochelle and Karlou's wedding truly channeled the couple's personalities, and at the same time, the celebration was warm and heart-felt.
