The numerous DIY projects for this couple's peacock-themed wedding reflected their combined creative talent, and like their love story, every detail of Pinky and Derek's wedding was given love, joy and spontaneity.

LOVE STORY
Derek's a freelance creative director and a professional bassist while Pinky's an entrepreneur with roots in the fashion industry. A common friend at a 2002 New Year's Party in a bar introduced them, and the two felt instant chemistry. Soon after they met, Pinky found out she was leaving for India for design consultancy work. Scared they'd lose each other, Pink and Derek became a couple a month later.
The couple would celebrate their anniversaries with trips abroad, and they chose places they have not yet explored as a couple. On their sixth year, they opted to watch The Police's concert in Macau with some friends. By then, the couple had long been discussing the next steps in their relationship--and on that trip, they finally decided what the next chapter for them was.
Pinky was bent on trying the SkyJump at the Macau Tower, where the world's highest descent from a building would represent the fears she had to overcome in her life. Atop the Macau Tower, and as seen by their friends and onlookers, Derek asked Pinky if he could take the plunge too with her--though this time as husband and wife. Pinky excitedly said yes then successfully "slew her dragon."
The couple wed on their seventh anniversary, marking the date a double-celebration.

WEDDING PREPARATIONS
Pinky and Derek chose a peacock-themed wedding. Knowing exactly what they wanted, the couple needed minimal consultation with the coordinator. "We wanted everything to be personalized so our guests will always be reminded [of] how this day, and their presence, meant so much to us," Pinky recalls. There were also surprise numbers: Pinky's dad serenaded her on their first dance; Pinky's older sisters wrote and sang to the tune of "Venus," Pinky's karaoke anthem. "It was hilarious!" she says.
The couple took on "a lot" of DIY projects, Pinky reveals. "[Given our creative background, we] might as well put all our talents together for this big show!" She shares their handiwork: "from the selection of music for every sequence of the program, editing our own videos, conceptualizing our prenup photo shoot, designing our own invitations, gowns, accessories and even creating scents for our souvenir soaps." Indian saree was incorporated in the details as a reference to Pinky's work early into the relationship.
In planning their outdoor wedding, the couple did not expect rain on their big day. However, it rained three days before and on the morning of their wedding. The couple immediately booked tents and had those on standby. Fortunately, the evening yielded clear skies--they didn't need the tents after all. "Just the same," Pinky advises, "paying the price for peace of mind is way better than regret."
