Love Story
Nestle and Ian were close friends back in college at Mapua Institute of Technology. They had the same circle of friends and worked together for a lot of school projects. After they graduated, they worked for the same company. Because of their shared experiences, it was no surprise that their friendship blossomed to a strong six-year romantic relationship.
The Nestle and Ian had already started preparing for their wedding even before Ian popped the question. "She told me that it's not a big deal if I don't give her an engagement ring but I still wanted to propose to her formally," Ian shares. And so in September 2009, Ian took Nestle to Boracay to celebrate his birthday there with her.
Ian initially planned to set a romantic dinner at a prime resort in Station 1 that offers a magnificent view of Boracay. However, the resort required a minimum booking for three days, two nights, and Ian wanted to have a room reserved for one night only. Ian then thought of bringing Nestle to a cruise around Boracay but Ondoy hit the country, so his plans didn't push through because of the weather.
With the hurdles on his initial plans, Ian then just decided to have a simple dinner for two on his birthday. On the eve of his birthday, the two went to a buffet--and Ian woke up with a bad stomach the next day. Come lunchtime, Ian was already asking to be taken to the hospital. Surprisingly, Ian found that moment to be the best time to ask Nestle for her hand in marriage. So with a grimacing face, he knelt down on one knee and delivered a heartfelt speech before he popped the question. After breaking down into tears, Nestle replied with a sweet yes. "Proposals don't need grandeur for it to be romantic," Ian says.

Nestle and Ian tied the knot with a cheery yellow and gray themed destination wedding. The island of Boracay stood witness to the couple's union, the couple's big day was blessed with fine weather and a breathtaking view. But what made their paradise wedding memorable was the personalized experience they gave their guests. The couple's goals for having a destination were to "give [their] guests a chance to vacation together, and to give them a wedding they will not forget."
The bride shares, "We always put the guests' comfort and happiness first before anything. We gave out welcome bags, provided multicabs, asked Asya to serve appetizers during cocktails, provided ample things to do during our pictorials, and handed out personalized sunglasses. [We also] made sure that the program wouldn't be boring, that everyone had enough to drink, [and that there was] good music."
In return, the couple got commended for the guests' one-of-a-kind Boracay experience. Having pulled-off a remarkable destination wedding, Nestle suggests planning brides to "Just enjoy the process! Do not stress yourselves too much because wedding preparations come only once, and you would miss it when it's over. Be firm with what you want, but also learn to let go of things that are not [your] priority."
