Maricel and John met when a common friend went to Maricel's place to pick her up, and John tagged along. Maricel shares that after that first meeting, John started visiting her regularly. Six months later, the two found themselves exclusively dating.
As their relationship blossomed, the couple decided to live together, and they were blessed with two children. With this set-up, their engagement was unlike the others. Theirs was a long seven-year engagement, which began when John gave Maricel an engagement ring bought by John's dad abroad. "We never thought of a date exactly, most especially we didn't have time to think about [the wedding] since we learned that his father had lung cancer," shares Maricel. After devoting time to take care of John's father, who passed away a year ago, the couple then decided to prepare for their wedding and celebrate it with their loved ones.
Maricel and John were blessed with two children when they finally walked down the aisle, and so the couple made their family the top priority and source of inspiration for their big day. "We have two children already, and we want to incorporate their presence in our lives by involving them [in our wedding details]--from the invitations down to the matching gowns and barongs. [We even] included them in our dance," the bride shares.
The couple also opted for an intimate ceremony, with only their respective families and three pairs of sponsors present as witnesses. The rest of their 75 guests went straight to the reception, where the couple treated everyone to a night of great company. "Since it was an intimate celebration, our main goal was to provide good food, a good band [that] plays relaxing songs, and a relaxing conversation with our guests," shares the bride. The couple also kept the reception program short as they simply entertained their guests with their on-site video, an audio-visual presentation of their prenuptial pictures, and a dance number with their children. In the end, the couple's warm and memorable celebration proved to be worth the wait.
