Loida and Tim had a simple, classic affair, which they celebrated in a majestic venue with a warm ambiance. The couple's commitment to make their wedding truly their own--which they accomplished by incorporating a couple of quirky details--allowed them to make their October wedding an affair to remember.

Loida and Tim met at a birthday party of a common friend. Loida says that Tim was very shy and quiet--she caught his eye, but he didn't ask for her number and instead got it from their common friend. Tim then asked Loida out on a date at the Botanical Gardens. He brought blocks of cheese and wine--neither of which Loida ate nor drank. But that didn't stop the two from having a great time. They had a pleasant conversation and enjoyed each other's company, and so they went on many other dates after that. "There was no proper wooing. We knew that we liked each other and we get along well. Our traits are opposite but we complement each other," Loida shares.
Because of their well-founded connection, just a few months after they started dating, Tim already told Loida that he plans to marry her someday. With this, Loida felt from the beginning that a marriage proposal was surely on its way. That fateful day came in October of 2009. Loida came home to their apartment and saw a bunch of candles lit on the dining table and at their lounge area. She then saw Tim coming from behind the door, with a smile on his face. "I knew it was coming, but for some reason I was surprised," Loida says. She was then led to the center of the lounge room, where Tim went down on his knee. "He was reciting a speech that I really couldn't remember. My vision was blurred as I was crying all that time. There was music playing, everything was perfect except for one thing: he forgot to include dinner! I said yes, I love him," Loida gushes.

Loida and Tim celebrated their big day with a classic gold and brown motif. The warm, metallic palette made their October affair exude both simplicity and elegance.
Because of Fernbrook Gardens' fairytale-like architecture, the couple didn't worry about extra reception décor and just let the venue's majestic interiors take center stage. They also incorporated some quirky details into the celebration--such as their caricature cake topper and DIY bags of chocolates as souvenirs--to give their affair a dash of personality. The couple also asked their guests to dress in semi-formal attire as they wanted the guests to enjoy the festivities--that would've been difficult if guests felt stiff in long gowns and formal suits.
With such a simple yet memorable union, Loida learned the value of owning one's wedding. "Don't be carried away by people who are trying to dictate what you should or should not do for your wedding. There will always be at least one of them. Regardless of how they are related to you or how close they are to you, at the end of the day, it is your wedding and you should have the final say," she shares.
