Love Story
Weddings, for most couples, serve as the mark of a new life together. But for some, a wedding is a dream that makes relationships and families stronger--and such is the case for Kara and Ace.
After being in a three-year relationship, Kara and Ace decided to live under the same roof, and they were blessed with a daughter. A little over a year later, the couple's dream of walking down the aisle came true, thanks to Ace's touching proposal.
"I always told him that I wanted my own exhibit and I always mentioned where my favorite restaurant was. On the day of the proposal, he surprised me with an exhibit of my works at the restaurant Van Gogh is Bipolar, which is also owned by a close friend of mine," shares the bride. When she saw a framed work that was not hers, she took a closer look--and found a heart-warming letter from the groom, expressing his dream to marry her. With tears running down her face, she hugged Ace and answered a sweet "Yes."

Wanting a timeless feel for their wedding, Kara and Ace tied the knot with a classic Filipiniana-themed celebration. And while most weddings take place in the afternoon last until the late evening, the couple's union took place early in the morning. A hearty Filipino brunch reception followed their ceremony. "We both love brunch, so we decided [to have one] for the reception. [And] in line with the Filipiniana theme, we wanted tapsilog, tocilog, tsokolate-e, coffee, pandesal and bibingka--perfect brunch food," shares the bride.
Aside from agreeing on their wedding theme, the couple also agreed that they would have a budget wedding. To do that, the couple busied themselves with a lot of DIY projects, such as their reception décor, prenup postcards, and boxes and labels for the cupcake souvenirs.
Having successfully pulled off a themed budget wedding, the bride suggests to couples on a tight budget to be resourceful. "You don't have to spend so much on everything. Ask help from friends and relatives," says Kara. She adds, "Incorporating personal touches in the wedding [will make your affair] more meaningful and special."
