Janina and Carlos marked their 11-11-11 wedding with a theme that showed their pride in their Ilocano roots and heritage. The destination wedding, which was laced with local products and delicacies, gave the couple and their guests a remarkable feast.

Love Story

Janina and Carlos met at the birthday of the son of Iloco Sur's mayor, and the two were introduced by a common friend. "It wasn't love at first sight--he thought I was still in high school, and I thought he was nosy," Janina recalls.

Despite their first impressions, Carlos still got in touch with Janina two weeks later. "After numerous calls and texts, we became really good friends. And when we finally met up again after a month, we couldn't resist the fact that we had so much chemistry [that] we ended up being a couple after," Janina gushes.

Two years into their relationship, Carlos popped the question to Janina on his birthday, October 10, 2010 (10-10-10). Janina admits that they aren't good with keeping secrets from each other, so Janina knew that he was going to propose on that day.

Janina waited until it was already late afternoon, and she thought that Carlos was not going to push through with the proposal. But Carlos then asked her to go with him to a garden, and he asked her what she remembered from that place. Janina then recalled it was where he first said ‘I love you' to her. He then went on with his proposal speech, brought out the ring and asked her if he needed to kneel. "All I could say was ‘Huh? Yes? No? I don't know.' And he did kneel down and proposed," Janina shares.

Wedding Preparations

After their engagement on 10-10-10, Janina and Carlos tied the knot on 11-11-11 (November 11, 2011). The couple held their grand fiesta-like wedding in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, and the celebration showcased the province's rich heritage. The wedding also featured things the couple grew up with it.

Janina and Carlos highlighted their Ilocano roots in the wedding by lacing their wedding with native products that Ilocos is known for. They even offered guests Ilocano delicacies such as empanada, okoy, salapusop and bugnay wine. With the local elements, the couple's union allowed them and their loved ones to celebrate Pinoy pride and a whole lot of love.

The couple's grand destination wedding brought together the couple's family and friends. To plan the big event, the couple decided to get a coordinator to help them with the logistics, especially since their reception venue was almost an hour away from their church. By investing in a good coordinator, the couple's special day went smoothly.

The bride shares that while it's fun to pick nice things for the wedding, at the end of the day, the  event is meant to celebrate you marrying the one you love. "Despite all the planning and all the beautiful things all of us came up with, the first thing I thought of when the church door opened was ‘I want to get married to him, right now!' And everything else fades into the background and you realize what the day really is for," Janina shares.
