Hard hats, safety vests, oversized safety shoes, metal rods sticking out of unfinished buildings, plus a 40-minute limit to complete the photo session without the help of make-up artists and stylists--these were not exactly the circumstances of an ideal prenuptial shoot, but for this hard-hitting couple, construction sites were part of their everyday life.
Mark and Elaine are both architects, and a construction-themed shoot was nothing short of perfect. "I think it's a unique concept," Elaine says. "Not everyone would like a messy excavated site as their background." Despite onlookers, the noise, the heat and the strict safety policies of the construction company, the couple remained unfazed. They even had to scrap Elaine's original plans of wearing a white gown at the construction site, and she had to do her own make-up. Still, the two managed to make the pictorial comfortable and familiar. "They were so relaxed with the place that capturing their endearing moments was such a breeze for me," says Bryan Yap, who was the photographer for the couple's unusual shoot.
No fees were paid for securing the location, but the couple had to seek permission from the construction company and sign a waiver indicating that the ongoing construction would not be disrupted during the shoot. The couple also agreed that the company would not be responsible for any untoward incidents.
Like real troopers, this couple breezed through circumstances that some people would crumble in. In the end, the photo session was proof of Elaine and Mark's love that's built to last.
