Many engaged couples dream of a lavish wedding. Think fireworks, a lengthy guest list, a sumptuous feast, and expensive custom-made designer outfits for the bride and groom. But for newlyweds Geejen Monreal and Xiong Macabuhay, splurging on their big day was not a priority. In fact, they ended up spending only P5,000 when they officially tied the knot!

"Saan aabot ang 5k pesos mo," Xiong hilariously captioned his now-viral post featuring photos from their civil wedding ceremony. As of writing, it has garnered over 49K shares, 14K comments, and 23K reactions.

“We focused [on securing] our future,” Geejen said in an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph), explaining their decision to forego the extra expenses typically incurred when planning a wedding. “Our main goal is to get married lang talaga and we focused more on our future plans after the wedding. Mas pinaglaanan po namin ng effort magplano on what's next after the wedding—our marriage.”

While many brands usually spend hundreds of thousands on their bridal gown, Geejen opted to walk down the aisle in a dress bought off of Facebook Marketplace. It was an off-shoulder frock that was gifted to her by her mother, so she didn't have to shell out money for her wedding dress anymore. Meanwhile, for his groom attire, Xiong went for old pieces from his closet, like his black coat and trousers, that he already owns.

Additionally, Geejen also did her own makeup and looked every bit like a glowing bride even without the help of a professional makeup artist.

The couple held their reception at Ellen’s Best Pares in Town, which is owned by the groom's family, so they only ended up spending approximately P2,500 on food for their 11 wedding guests, including their three principal sponsors and some select family members.

Breaking down their expenses, Geejen shared that they spent P390 on civil registry, P999 on wedding rings, P2,500 on food, and P890 on their Certificate of No Marriage Record or CENOMAR. This brings them to a total of only P4,779.

The couple officially tied the knot back in October 25, 2021, but only decided to share photos on social media recently.

Congratulations to these practical newlyweds!
