The historic union of Catherine Middleton and Prince William has generated much talk about the bride's Sarah Burton wedding gown. Catherine arrived at the Westminster Abbey in a stunning ivory A-line gazar satin gown that extended to a dramatic cathedral train at the back. The bodice was overlaid with a lace appliqué that formed sophisticated long sleeves and a stunning V-neckline.
According to a release from the Clarence House, "the lace applique for the bodice and skirt was handmade by the Royal School of Needlework, with individual flowers hand-cut from lace (in shapes of roses, thistle, daffodils and shamrocks)." Many say that Catherine's wedding ensemble reflects the sensible style of a modern princess: classic with an interesting twist. According to Clarence House, "the satin bodice, narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips in a McQueen signature, is based on Victorian corsetry." The Burton creation was worn with an ivory silk tulle waterfall veil trimmed with hand-embroidered flowers. For her something borrowed, Catherine wore Queen Elizabeth II's 1936 Cartier tiara.
