The holidays are here! Brides definitely want to look extra special on the big day, and the season presents more leeway for experimentation. BridalBook.ph sits down with Hollywood and New-York trained makeup artist Gio Flores for his practical advice and recommended hair and make-up looks for brides getting married during the holidays.
What are the specific looks for hair and make-up for the bride trending this season?
The use of colors and shimmers are the latest trends in the bridal scene this holiday season and applying these in moderation can play up your best features.
Gold is the perfect choice to celebrate the season as long as you don't go overboard with the shimmer. There are two looks a bride may opt for to achieve a timeless and feminine look: a gilded smoky eye paired with light lips or deep red lips balanced with pared down eye makeup.
Most of the time, a simple and classic approach to hairstyling always works best because neat and clean updos always look divine. But if a bride would prefer a complex hairstyle, then this is the time to go for it.
What differentiates the look of the holiday bride from brides in other seasons? Are the any facial features that are accentuated more during the holidays than in other seasons?
When choosing holiday makeup, decide if you're going to play up your eyes or lips. If you opt for a smoky eye, lighten up with a light, sheer lipcolor. If you do bright red lips, keep the rest of the face low-drama because this may be one of the harshest looks for a bride to pull off.
Sparkling and shimmering accents with a hint of vibrant tones make a bold statement this Christmas season. Valentine's is the perfect time to go sultry and dramatic with bold and luscious red lips, while brides in the summer season look best with a radiant and natural sun-kissed glow. Whatever the season, however, the makeup should flatter the brides' overall look including the hair, gown and accessories.
Are there any holiday trends that you recommend the Filipina holiday bride not to follow? And why?
Holidays are the perfect time to try out the newest trends and exciting looks; however, the wedding day itself is not a time to experiment with the makeup trend of the moment or something radically different from the bride's usual style. A simple, sleek and classic look is always the best option and it is important that the bride feels like at her most beautiful and should love how she looks in the pictures ten years from now.
In this holiday season where shines and sparkle are in, I do not recommend wearing frosted, sparkly shadows as it will reflect the camera flashes. Lastly, don't apply shimmer all over the face; one to two accents are enough.
Any final tips for the holiday bride?
Do a complete makeup trial and don't experiment with a look you haven't tried before.
