Over the break, my future mother and father-in-law hosted a dinner for our two families. It was a wonderful night: great food from Chef Laudico and great company. It's so nice to see The Groom's family and my own getting along.
Two special gifts were given to us that night. First, a harana from Bella Voce; the quartet sang really nice love songs a cappella. I was thinking it would be so nice to have them sing at church.
Second, this amazing poem by James Navé, beau of the groom's sister Tish, who's an established poet in New York. He does spoken word performances in poetry clubs in the city and this was my first time to ever hear him. He created the poem spontaneously and he said it so beautifully.
He was nice enough to send us a transcription of the poem as well as a recording from that night. I recommend playing the track and read along.
There's a simple peace that cascades down from all the stars
that have ever existed from the beginning of time. It settles
in your eyes, so simple you won't notice it at first. Then
sometime soon after it arrives, you catch a glimmer, like
the glimmer you might catch early in the morning just after
dawn. This peace settles in your eyes and it gives you endless
horizons. So easy, everything falls together like blades of grass
covered with dew. There's much to be said about beauty
and peace. And how, when they wrap their golden crowns
around your beautiful hair everything seems possible.
Even the sea goes silent at the thought. And you both stare
out into a future full of sun. Suddenly you hear the sea again
and it starts to tell your story. And that story goes on forever.

I'm planning to include the poem in my wedding album, which I'll be laying out with my cousin Michael who is a graphic artist. I'm already thinking of what types of shots to do so that the photos really flow well with the poem.
