Crash Landing on You fans, here’s a little throwback to indulge in: Remember when Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin) pawned her engagement ring from Gu Seung Joon (Kim Jung Hyun) to get her friends farewell gifts? After successfully convincing the dealer to purchase it, she also bought Captain Ri (Hyun Bin) a luxury timepiece, which was in fact his brother’s long lost watch. And after Gu Seung Joon discovered that it had been pawned, he immediately repurchased it and presented it to Seo Dan (Seo Ji Hye) when he proposed… Ahhh, the tears we had shed in this scene!
Emotions aside, we have long been curious about the ring itself! And finally, we've discovered where it comes from. CLOY fans, this precious engagement ring comes from the French fine jewelry brand Chaumet—and it certainly doesn't come cheap.
The piece comes from the brand’s Josephine Aigrette Collection, which was inspired by Empress Josephine, Napoleon Bonaparte’s first wife and the first Empress of France after he proclaimed himself Emperor. She was known for her exquisite taste in jewelry and for “mixing and matching” a few of her different colored pieces. Inspired by this penchant of hers, the collection includes an array of gemstones like amethyst, aquamarine, and citrine that allows the wearer to create an “original combination” of her choice.
Empress Josephine’s very own engagement ring featured pear-shaped sapphire and diamond placed side by side. It is this design that Gu Seung Jun’s engagement ring pays homage to. The Josephine Aigrette ring features a pave setting on 18-carat white gold. The centerpiece is a delicate, teardrop-shaped design with a single diamond in the middle. There are other variants of this design, including one with a single pearl as the centerpiece, as well as those with colored gemstones. There is also one in rose gold with an Akoya-cultured pearl!
As you might have guessed, this ring costs a fortune. According to K-DramaStars.com, jewelry distributors estimate the cost to be around $10,500 to $15,500—that’s approximately P528,050.25 to P779,502.75. Looking back at Yoon Se Ri’s bargaining, we guess it was a steal considering the fact that Captain Ri’s Chopard Alpine Eagle watch costs approximately $12,945, but it can go as high as $20,000.
At the end of the day, it was Seo Dan who kept the regal ring, which represents her love for Gu Seung Joon—and that’s priceless!
