As another year--another decade, in fact--rolls in, a lot of people are understandably excited to initiate and make changes in their lives. It can be something as mundane as cleaning up one's room, to serious matters like transferring jobs or relocating to another city. Now, for some couples, there is probably no better way to initiate the new year than by deciding to spend the rest of their lives together.

Before tying the knot, there is no doubt that there are many things to consider. From color motif and flower arrangements, to guests and entourage, every would-be husband and wife usually go through all the details to ensure that the ceremony is as memorable and as perfect as they can make it. More than these, however, some believe that choosing a good wedding date is necessary to help bring in luck and fortune to the newlyweds. Here are some wedding dates to consider--and avoid--for 2011:

Professor Sherwin Gomez, Feng Shui and date selection consultant, reveals what this year has in store for couples. "2011 is the year of the yin metal rabbit or xin mao," he explains. "Couples who are planning to get married this year must be ready for the unexpected, because 2011 can reveal many things. You must be emotionally and mentally ready for things that might happen; this is what the xin mao is all about. In a nutshell, you have to learn how to accept changes."

International astrologer Jessica Adams, meanwhile, shares that picking a date that is considered lucky for your zodiac sign--or that of your partner's--will considerably help in ensuring that luck is on your side. For example, if you're born under the sign of Aries, September 28 is an auspicious wedding date. You'll even have memorable written vows that day. If you're dreaming of a honeymoon overseas, you can hold the ceremony on October 12. For social people, October 21 is a great day for a wedding, as it will prominently feature the couple's friends.

Now, if you or your partner is under Taurus, you can opt for October 13 because it promises that a set of eccentric friends will help liven up your party. If you're more on the practical side, set your wedding date on October 16. You can also consider ringing the bells on November 3 if you want astrological help in keeping your marriage strong for years to come.

For those born under Cancer, January 19 is an auspicious day to get married if you want to be in for an exotic honeymoon. On the other hand, if you see yourselves as a power couple, February 9 is a good bet. Choose March 1 if you have a strong interest in traveling, or you're fascinated by far-off places or unconventional ideas.

If there are auspicious dates, then there's the other side of the coin: wedding dates to be avoided. Professor Sherwin cautions, "Couples who were born in the year of the horse, rat and especially rooster must avoid June, September and December to tie the knot, because they may bring problems throughout your married life. Similarly, couples must not choose 11.11.11 or 8.8.11, or something that has the number 8."

Your wedding is undoubtedly one of the most memorable experiences you'll have, and the date may invariably play an important role in that. Feng Shui and astrological signs may give you recommendations and advice, but in the end, it is still up to you and your partner to decide what date works best to mark the start of your new life together.
