Traditionally, wedding cakes are tiered confections in fondant or buttercream frosting, and are usually adorned by sugar flowers. The cake plays a huge part in the reception, when the couple cuts a slice and shares a piece as husband and wife. While there's nothing wrong with such conventional cakes, some couples opt to have single-serve cakes to make it easier to share the treats with guests.

Some of the couples we've featured had towers of cupcakes or mini-cakes instead of having a traditional wedding cake. If you want to stick with tradition, you can still have a cake for the cutting ceremony (it doesn't have to be as big as the conventional cake), and then give out smaller versions of the cake to your guests.
