Kung corruption lang ang basis, walang difference from then until now. Let's face it, even the Daang Matuwid cannot solve it. Next best thing to look at is who can actually yield improvement in the Philippines.
It's true that up to now may corruption pa rin sa gobyerno natin, but there is a difference between then and now. Nung presidente si Marcos, power was so concentrated sa family nila and cronies. They had the means to get whatever they wanted because people were so afraid of them and didn't have much choice. Kung part ka ng inner circle na yun, naka-jackpot ka. Nung naalis sila sa Malacanang, it became more of a free-for-all, na kahit anong partido mo or kahit sinong kaalyado mo, kahit anong position mo sa gobyerno e mas pwede kang gumawa ng kalokohan.
May mga tao na nagsasabing walang kwenta ang Daang Matuwid dahil hindi naman nila nabura ang corruption, that it's totally useless so dapat tuluyang iwanan na or ibasura ito. That is a hasty and unfair judgement. Nobody can eradicate corruption unless everyone does their part in doing the right thing. Hindi yan kaya burahin ng isang tao, isang grupo or isang partido, kahit sabihin mo pang si Pope Francis pa yan or the Dalai Lama. Stamping out corruption is everybody's job, everyone needs to do the work. Hindi yan pwedeng i-asa to a few people and expect na masosolve nila ang problema, especially one that is so entrenched in our government and our society. Ilang decades na ang sakit na yan, and to expect that it will be solved within 6 years by just a handful of people is unrealistic. Eliminating corruption is a long, uphill battle, lalo na na there are more people working to maintain the corrupt status quo than the people who are working to change it. Hindi magic pill ang Daang Matuwid, but it's a move in the right direction. May konting progress naman na na-achieve, and we all need to build on it and do more to continue the fight. Nakakapanghinayang if mawawala lang yung momentum, yung ground that was gained.
It's still a curious thing how there are people who lived through Martial Law and yet go for Marcos pa din sila (no ties whatsoever yun ah as in common citizens).
Maraming reasons for that. Yung iba, ang thinking nila e hindi naman nila na-experience mabugbog or madampot ng militar nung panahon ni Marcos, so okay lang, keber lang sila.
May mga tao naman who believe na yung mga binugbog, dinampot or pinatay nung panahon ni Marcos e mga komunista and terrorists who deserved it, kaya di sila bothered by the human rights abuses. There are also those who think na gawa-gawa lang yung mga cases of abuse, na imbento lang lahat yun.
Yung iba naman gusto na makabalik ulit ang mga Marcos sa Malacanang kasi they want to get back the privileges they used to have nung panahon ni Marcos. May kilala ako na gustong-gusto ang pamilyang yan kasi nung panahon ni Marcos e may family member siya na nasa military, kaya siga sila sa neighborhood nila kasi takot na takot ang mga tao nun sa militar. They were untouchable, and they liked it.
Hindi mataas or special yung position ng family member niya na yun, ordinaryong sundalo lang, pero dahil sa sobrang takot ng mga tao nun sa militar e parang hari sila noon sa lugar nila.
May mga taong botong-boto sa Marcoses dahil kababayan nila yun. May napanood ako sa TV dati, early 90s pa ito and if I remember correctly e this was on GMA, na may matandang babae na tinanong bakit gusto niya si Macoy kahit na ang daming abuses ang ginawa ng mga Marcos. Sabi nung matanda e dapat lang daw na suportahan niya ang mga Marcos dahil Ilokana din siya, galing sila sa parehong probinsya, and naniniwala daw siya na pag Ilokano ang presidenteng nakaupo e mas aangat daw ang mga Ilokano at ang Ilocos compared sa iba.
There are people who like the Marcoses because of the glamor that they associate with that family. Naaalala nila si Imelda, looking beautiful with her shoes and jewels and immense wardrobe, na nakikipag-sosyalan with other heads of state and international celebrities. And dati daw ang daming buildings ang naitayo ni Imelda to promote the arts. Naaalala nila na dati may international film festival dito sa Manila na pinupuntahan ng international celebrities. They remember the glamor and look back on that period with nostalgia, forgetting the fact na lahat ng yun e galing sa pera ng bayan at nalubog tayo sa billions of dollars na utang—utang na hanggang ngayon e di pa rin natin tapos bayaran.
