Embarrassing and Mortifying Wedding Speeches
« on: June 20, 2015, 04:34:35 pm »
Okay, so when it comes to wedding speeches, we mostly have no control over that and sometimes this can cause some rather embarrassing moments.

Here's my experience.

My dad's speech: "When I first saw GROOM, I thought it was a mismatch, you know? I mean look at my daughter. She is so beautiful. And GROOM.....................but I'm just joking, you know?"

Okay, so my hubby isn't exactly billboard handsome, but neither is my dad -_- Nakakahiya coz when I looked at my husband's family table, I saw that his mom and aunt were quite offended. And days after the wedding, they even mentioned it -_-

My uncle's speech: "When I first saw GROOM, my first impression was, aba! Mukhang may pera to ah!"

I wanted to bash my head against the table right there and then. My uncle's family is known to look at your monetary worth, which was why they gossiped a lot about my family when we fell into hard times during the financial crisis of the late 90s and early 2000s, and continued to do so even after we had bounced back. I didn't even want to invite them but out of respect daw, my parents told me to invite them. I wish I hadn't coz majority of his speech did talk about money -_-

I'm pretty sure others have more embarrassing speeches from relatives. Care to share?

OMG that's horrible. I am so sorry you went through that. :( Did your husband react?

I haven't experienced a speech as bad as that but I always find it awkward when parents say "we want an apo asap" in public. I know they mean well but it's just something I'd rather not hear in front of so many guests.

We both had to hold our smiles during the reception while the speeches were ongoing. Until now though, we still recall it from time to time and cringe. We can tolerate yung speech ng dad ko more than yung speech ng uncle ko, which was actually caught on video so andito na siya sa full length video coverage namin forever preserved LOL

Di ko na ininclude, but almost all of the speeches from my mom, aunts and other uncles included wishing for us to have kids soon. It was awkward, pero it paled in comparison sa speech ng dad at uncle ko -_-

How weird naman sis gwendy that your videog didnt have the consideration not to include your uncle's remark sa video coverage :| But anyway, move on na! You have a happy married life ahead of you :)

I once attended a wedding where the father of the bride's speech went on for more than hour! ;D and he's not making any sense na talaga and yung mga guests are looking around na because we no longer understand what was going on and what he was saying probably because of too much alcohol.. lol! But at the end of the speech, guests still clapped and cheered... siguro happy that the speech was over :-P

Kami naman we plan to choose the people closest to us to make a speech.. and hindi din namin pagsasalitain na yung mga may stage fright... ;D because I always find it weird to hear people start their speeches with.. "I am not prepared for this.." "Hindi ko alam ang sasabihin ko.." "Im not used to doing this.." more often than not, speeches that start with those statements doesn't really end well haha.

sis gwendy730 baka pwede mo ipa-edit ulit yung vid and ask your videographer to omit those awkward parts  ;D

Edna_mode super funny ang hour-long speech! Did someone record and post a remix version? Hahaha If I were the bride I'd be mortified with both the hour-long speech and the remix (if meron) but hopefully can strat laughing about it on our first anniversary haha

gwendy730, agree with others here - check with the videographer if they can take it out from the final clip. My brother does videos and there's this final step akin to 'publishing' (I forgot the technical term haha) the entire video in MPEG/MP4 format but not much effort naman dapat yun on their side.

Our experience wasn't as bad as yours gwendy730 (so sorry you had to go through that  :-\) but during our wedding, my hubby's mom mentioned in her speech that a few months before the wedding hubby and I got into a big fight to the point na I texted her in my anger that we were going to call off the wedding. Her point was, since kasal na daw kami hindi na daw pwedeng padalos-dalos na ganun.

Nakakahiya lang na all our guests had to find that out.  :o

Awwww, Jailalee, I think you MIL means well. But yeah, that's embarrassing that she had to say that in public.

I am so happy that my dad followed the 10-minute limit that I imposed. He is known for extremely long speeches! But kakahiya my dad, he even mentioned my ex in his speech! He said that it was a good thing we didn't end up together because kakainin ko daw ng buhay ang ex ko. OMG kakahiya because some of my ex's kabarkada were invited as guests in our wedding. Hahaha. I had to slightly punch my dad in the arm for him to stop. Then dad laughed and said, "somebody's protesting!" Kainis!

Good thing my now husband was just laughing at that time and that he was happy because my parents love him. hehe.

Ours was not terrible embarrassment but my sister who gave the speech narrated our love story; unfortunately it included the reason why hubby and i met first because his "guy friend" persistently asked me to introduce him to any of my hot friends (lumalandi). and that "guy friend" attended the wedding with his now wife and baby; my sister unknowingly asked the specific person to raise his hand. every ones attention directed to him, wherein we could feel he was mortified but played along and smile. the funny thing was my sister didn't know there were 2 guy friends, the other one also attended the wedding with his very jealous wife and kid who kept quiet and silently praying he would not get busted.

Medyo masakit since matagal na kamini hubby bago nakapagpakasal for many reasons tungkol sa pamilya nya. Eldest si hubby and a lot more reasons kung bakit parang hindi pa sya ma-let go ni MIL.

^ sis graziousa sorry to hear that, really thats not nice to say for a daughter in law. i hope dumating yung time na maayos na talag lahat and magaang sa loobnyo pag nakikita nyo isat isa..

i attended a wedding of a friend and parang same nung kay sis gwendy, the bride's dad said in his speech na akala daw nya dati kaibigan lang ng daughter niya si groom, kasi si groom daw "hindi kagwapuhan" kaya for sure hindi magugustuhan ng daughter nya na maganda (very pretty si bride, si groom average) everyone laughed, pero nakita namin reaction ni groom parang naapi kunwari, altho knowing groom for sure its ok kasi palabiro din yun :)

the dad mentioned "hindi kagwapuhan" thrice pala during his speech.

Upon reading the comments I realize na kahit papaano mas okay pa pala ang mag speech sa Civil though depende pa rin and case to case basis. It just so happened lang na kami ng hubby ko Civil and all of us naman in the family first time ma involve sa ganitong klaseng kasal or let me say family namin first time makaattend ng Civil so no idea usually kung paano ang ceremony nun. Pero in fact kung meron rin kaming program na ganito I won't really let my GMIL to speak kasi magiging bias ang statement niya saka may tendency na mang insulto sa akin in front of other people.

I could imagine now na dapat yata bago niyo sila pag speech ay may approval niyo, or another thing is kung pwede nga lang eh! kapag andun na sa embarrassing part sabihin niyo na THANK YOU! NEXT PLEASE  ;D

If they will go on stage to embarass the couple e wag nalang.

They should contain themselves. Mahiya sana sila sa couples.

I attended one wedding na kulang nalang sabihin sa groom e pangkabuhayan package yung bride kasi good catch. Bastos sobra!

Sorry ang init ulo ko :(

^Agree, there are so many people pala who do not know how to give proper speeches in public. It is slightly discouraging. I would actually rather not have my parents/ relatives/ friends talk at the wedding if there's going to be a hint of embarassment or discrimination to bear. Kasi it might cause a rift between the families pa after. The problem is in predicting what comes out of their mouths.

Ang lala naman ng pangkabuhayan package. :o

In the wedding of my college friend in 2012, her mother in law made a speech and told everyone the story on how she tried to break the couple apart so many times because she was worried for her son's future. She also said 'hinde naman dahil sa ichura eh, dahil talaga maganda pa sana ang future ni ____'. Sobrang thick ng discomfort in the atmosphere. Naawa ko sa friend ko, hinde naman sya pangit, she's short and quite big pero charming naman yung face. Nakakaloka how paulit ulit na sinabe ang pagka worry nya sa future ng anak nya as if naman criminal yung friend ko.

^^^parang ganyan din yung sa pinsan ko and her MIL..

during their wedding reception, sabi ni MIL ng cousin ko,.. "actually ayaw ko pa nga sana mag-asawa si ____ (her son) kasi marami pa siya pwede marating... kaya lang since andito na tayo at wala na akong magawa, e di tatanggapin na lang"....
..napa-WTF kami sa speech ni madir kasi as if naman sinira ng pinsan ko yung buhay ng anak nya..duh... take note, maganda career ng pinsan ko at okay din kabuhayan ng family nila. Di rin siya buntis during the wedding kaya walang notion na napilitan either of them or that unplanned yung wedding, talagang ready na sila magpakasal..si madir lang siguro ang hindi ready.
up to now, 10 years after na... napapag-usapan pa rin namin magpipinsan yung nangyari sa cousin namin...
