With my boss, no problem. It's only when they need something urgently that she'd call, and she'd keep it brief. But with other departments... argh! That's why I put the phone on silent. I need sleep to get better.

As the boss, I try not to call if the guy is in SL. Pero if I cannot help it at sya lang nakakaalam and I have exhausted all efforts to para alamin pero wala parin at sya lang nakakaalam, I will email the person (may mobile phones naman sila provided by the company) and ask him/her nicely kumusta na sya at apologize since medyo urgent and would really appreciate it if makakatulong sya.

As the subordinate, I look at the urgency of the issue. If not urgent, pinagpapaliban ko (emails).  Sometimes they call pero kung hindi ko alam bakit, I won't answer.  Tapos magsend sila ng email if urgent, then I will return their call.  There are instances na mild lang ang SL ko, pero alam kong hindi urgent, dedma.  Pero there are instances na nasa hospital nako pero alam kong urgent at walang iba makakagawa, I call my boss and submit what I need to at a reasonable time.

I think it is okay for the boss to call me even if I am on SL but only for urgent cases. Not to the point na konting kibot lang tawag na agad.
I also make sure that I have a back up para kahit wala ako eh may mapagtatanungan cya.

in extreme cases.  especially if you have pending work, cyempre biglaan kang nawala tapos hindi mo natapos scheduled submission na pala.

Pagbalik ko ng office after a week nag-issue sila ng Notice to Explain due to negligence, work abandonment, attendance issues etc., kahit nagbigay ako ng medcert.

Saka naka-set yung out of office auto reply sa email ko.

Sabi ng manager ko "The company paid for your hospitalization so in return you should have think of the company too. You should have filed for leave of absence instead of SL. If I tell you that you could lose your job will that be ok with you?!" pasigaw pa yan.

^for what i know sis mysterioza_me.

Pero after a year ibinalik ako dun kaya nagresign na ko. I'm happier with my current employer.

just for the sake of sharing, here's the content of the PR:

staff undergone her scheduled leaves with identified back-up. however, the identified back-up was also called out sick the whole week.  the staff stated that she was on call and will have access to email but she failed to respond to most calls and did not returned the calls.

i didn't respond nor explain to this, i just signed and acknowledged.  for me, nothing to explain because it's not my fault that the back-up was in unscheduled leave.  tsaka, i don't think na nasubmit ito sa HR kase 1-2 sentences pa lang sablay na.
(pero what they don't know e wala talaga signal dun sa province namin ng globe. kelangan ka pa pumunta sa baybay para magkaroon ng signal. pero what's the point of explaining. hindi rin naman kase ako masalita e. minsan lang kapag OA na ang sinasabi.)

i am over this now.  it takes me 2 yrs to finally forget.  ngayon ko lang ulit naalala. well i'm on my 4th year in this company.

Minsan kasi, sana konting consideration man lang hehe. Kung sobrang important at wala naman talagnag back up, okay lang naman sana.

Something worse happened to me before.  My boss sent the company driver to bring all my work files to my house while I was sick.  :o  Eventually I left that insensitive, inconsiderate company.  >:(

If you really resent being called by your boss or anyone from work when you're on SL, set your smartphone to block calls and texts from all their numbers until the day you go back to work.

If they call your house landline, ask someone else to answer the phone, say that you are asleep, and to leave a message which you will of course ignore.

When you come back to work and they use your actions against you, maybe it's time for you to ask yourself if want to continue working for people like those.   ;)

Anong katwiran nila? Is that because VL's and SL's are being paid kaya dapat magtrabaho kahit onleavei3

As much as possible, I don't call employees on SL especially for a R & F employee, since pwede talagang ipagawa sa iba ang tasks niya.

BUT,  if the  employee occupies a critical position and  wan't able to  endorse  an important / urgent task because nag SL nga  , then I will call. It is actually his/her responsibility to call and inform unless the reason for his /her SL is really life threatening.

Depende siguro sa boss haha!

For me OK lang, kase my boss is so understanding naman kapag may migraine attack pinapauwi ako nun, and no need na to give sick leave certificate.  Tapos kapag may importante akong dapat asikasuhin, pinapayagan niya ako -- as long as di naaapektuhan ang trabaho ok lang sa kanya.

So when I get sick at may urgent information na ako lang ang pede nya tanungin, ok lang sa akin na tawagan niya ako.  I actually message him and tell him that he can call me if something urgent comes up.  Pero kapag yung sakit ko yung tipong hilo hilo ako and umaapoy na lagnat - tinetext ko sya before 8am, na if incase may kelangan sa kin, I will get back as soon as ok na pakiramdam ko at kaya ko na buksan ang laptop ko.
