Exodus 20:4-5 (KJV)

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

God Bless you too! :)

^ito talaga off topic pero if you have time zipporahkate, try reading this:
http://www.olrl.org/apologetics/cathansr.shtml

baka masagot yung iba mong ayaw sa paniniwala namin. yung mga sinasabi mo kasi, matagal nang tinatanong ng iba at matagal na ring nasagot ng mga Catholics. mas magandang pagtuunan na lang ng pansin yung mga bagay that we have in common rather than waste our time disagreeing with each other.

Mark 7:9 (KJV)
And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Colossians 2:8 (KJV)
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Hi iloveshimmer and zipporahkate, indeed that is what the Bible says. And indeed we should worship the Lord, and no one else. But do you mean to say you NEVER ask people to pray for you? I think you Born again folks (assuming that you are one) always do that, no? My Born again friends always ask for prayers, or they tell me they will pray for me (even when I don't ask them to lol). It's the same principle, really. Only that we ask Mary to intercede for us because of her special role as the mother of Christ. Didn't the Bible say, in fact, that "all generations will call [her] blessed?" She is after all the one who is "highly favored" and "blessed among women."

That last one is from Luke 1:28, if I recall correctly. But then again us Catholics don't take the Bible quite as literally as you do.

^ +1 to your explanation.
Catholics are often misinterpreted as worshipping Mary, we don't. I personally pray to her to intercede because she is The Mother of Christ.

The rosary for me is therapeutic hehe

^+1 for me too.  We say 'Jesus, hear us'.  We also say 'Mary, pray for us'.  To me, there's a difference.

sorry ah but can't help but comment lang... parang Lara Guigaman ang peg! naive post kunwari.. kaya nasasabihan ng hypocrite eh.. tsk tsk.. at talagang kami pa ang naka-mis-interpret talaga ah?  :D :D

i believe, religion is a never ending argument... ganito na lang siguro para walang away... wala na lang basagan ng trip ok??! mind your own way of beliefs and we will mind our own. hirap kasi sa iba, pag inatake ng pagiging feeling righteous, walang alam kundi manita ng iba, hay!

GOD has exalted Mary

Maria, mother of God

MARIA, INA NG PANGINOON AT DIOS

kung sa paningin nyo, hindi katanggap tanggap ang pagpapaliwanag ng aming paniniwala, then so be it, wala tayong patutunguhan kung magtuturuan sino ang mali or tama, RESPECT is the word.

John 8:32 (KJV)
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Proverbs 15:31-33 (KJV)
31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:--- Ephesians 4:11-12

Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;--- Ephesians 2:19

Hi zipporahkate, the thing is, you cherry picked verses which are very obviously meant to discredit our beliefs about Mary. Naturally people will think you have a hidden agenda. How can you post verses about how there's only "one mediator" about "worshipping" images, etc etc and then expect us to believe that those were NOT thinly veiled attacks on our beliefs?

I understand your "Final Authority" is the Bible. Good for you. You are free to believe in whatever, just as we're free to pray to Mary. It's great that you want to preach the Good News of the Lord, or whatever it is that you preach. It's just that you'd be hard pressed to have people listen to you, much less embrace your preachings, when you preach in a thread such as this, and ESPECIALLY when your manner of preaching is questionable, at best.

^^Sis ikaw na rin sumagot,  Sorry ha I also believe in the Bible that it is the word of God. pwede naman dedma na lang sa post (verse from the Bible)  if matibay talaga at di matitibag yung foundation mo sa belief mo. So hindi dapat matrigger yung personal beliefs mo and sabi mo nga, spread niya lang Good news ng Bible. Bible na binabasa rin ng mga Catholics.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
--Mark 16:15

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
--Matthew 28:20

B-ASIC
I-NSTRUCTION
B-EFORE
L-EAVING
E-ARTH

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
--2 Timoth 2:15

verses lang ng Bible, na sabi mo nga may hidden agenda, but not as if it’s like attacking you, magkaiba yun sa sharing. Word of God naman yung pinost.  sabi nga ng

Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
--Galatians 4:16

Yun yung wag mamisinterpret dahil di paninita yun, or pag-atake,We’re just doing what Mark 16:15 and Matthew 28:20 says.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
--Hebrews 4:12

Sa nagpost na you dont take the Bible quite literally, pwede bang malaman kung ano yung tinetake mo literal na pinanghuhugutan ng belief mo? so sis if you dont take the Bible quite literally, sa paanong way? Sabi nga ng

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
--Galatians 6:7

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
--1 Peter 5:6

to the moderator, you know in your heart that this is not flaming/trolling this is Word of God.

well.. sabi nga nya, pwede naman daw deadmahin, eh di deadmahin...

so by quoting this

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
--1 Peter 5:6

are you saying that you are humble?

In my humble opinion ok yung exchange of viewpoints basta wag hahantong sa pakikipag argue. pero inevitable yun eh.
Even Satan did that.. so kaniya kaniya nalang ng opinion . :))

Honestly sis shabbychic, you're not just 'simply sharing' diba? Let's just be honest nalang tutal that is in the Bible rin naman. What do you REALLY want us to do? You want us to 'see the light' and renounce Mary and all the saints, is that right? Otherwise you wouldn't be posting here with your verses about how wrong we are to 'worship Mary' and all that.

Obviously we're not Born Again like you and we have a different set of beliefs. We don't tell you that you should believe in Mary, so why do you keep insisting that we shouldn't? Then you also keep insisting that we are simply hurt and we're not open to what you're saying kasi ito na ang nakalakihan naming religion na minana lang namin kung san. Lol. Sorry you feel that way.

There IS a way to have a healthy discussion about religion. Difficult, but not impossible, and you're certainly not going to achieve that by spouting Bible verses and pretending you don't mean anything by it. This also isn't the thread for that.  Now that I think about it, perhaps the blame is on me. I shouldn't have entitled this thread All About Mary. I should have just said 'Mother Mary devotees' or 'Please help me grow closer to Mary' or some such thing.  Perhaps shabbychic, you and zipporah can make a new thread about Mary. Then perhaps others will find the energy and the will to discuss whatever it is you want to discuss.  But sooner or later, you will also have to accept that people believe in Mary and you're just going to have to respect that the way people ought to also accept that you take the Bible as the end all and be all of things. Because that's the way the world  works, no? People have different beliefs and we just have to agree to disagree.

Peace.
