Im just wondering how come no one in tacloban thought to use those burnable debris and formed a bon fire like camp on every strategic corner to serve as light in the evening?

CPP-NPA's response regarding the hijack in Matnog, Sorsogon, taken directly from their website:

AFP lying, encountered troops in Sorsogon not carrying Yolanda relief—CPP

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today denounced the Aquino regime and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for making use of the Yolanda tragedy as a camouflage to carry out relentless offensive operations in Sorsogon province and elsewhere.

“Malacañang and its AFP officials were lying when they claimed that the 31st IB troops that figured in an encounter with the NPA yesterday were involved in humanitarian aid operations for Yolanda victims,” pointed out the CPP. A report issued by the AFP indicated that the armed encounter erupted past 5 a.m. in Barangay Balocawe in Matnog, Sorsogon.

“While awaiting more detailed field reports from the NPA Celso Minguez Command in Sorsogon, it is instructive to point out that the reported encounter happened in the interior areas of Matnog, a site that is at least three kilometers away from the Maharlika Highway land route from Luzon to Samar island and five kilometers away from the Matnog port,” said the CPP.

“The Aquino regime and the AFP are lying through their teeth in claiming that their troops involved in an armed encountered yesterday were involved in a humanitarian mission, exploiting the plight of the Yolanda diaster victims to conceal the brutalities of their continued offensive operations,” added the CPP.

“The encountered AFP troops were clearly on an offensive mode and carrying out search and destroy operations in the interior areas of Matnog.”

The CPP said NPA units in areas ravaged by the recent super typhoon Yolanda are currently engaged in relief and rehabilitation efforts assisting local Party branches and revolutionary mass organizations in mobilizing emergency supply for disaster victims.

The CPP said revolutionary forces are exerting efforts to reach out to hundreds of thousands of people especially in the interior and mountainous areas of Samar and Leyte islands, as well as in the islands of Panay, Negros, Mindoro, Masbate, Palawan and others who have been practically abandoned by the reactionary Philippine government.

I don't trust those communist faction,  they harass and extort revolutionary tax on legitimate business or else they burn your equipment or whatever it is your trade as punishment.

Dick Gordon did mentioned the hijacking of relief goods by unidentified armed groups and since people trust him here theres no reason to believe those bandits that the government was making this up.

exactly. this is the Super Typhoon Yolanda thread. Broad kung broad ang scope. anyone can put what they want to express here whether hijacking of relief goods ng communista ba yan or yung inis nila kay korina sanchez, presidente, mar roxas or yung 2 na nabaril etc etc. if this is the "What can we do to help Typhoon Yolanda victims thread?" then yes discussions probably should be limited to some areas. Besides, sa first few pages nga ng thread na eto, makikita na sari saring topics ang nadisiscuss talaga...but kung iisang topic lang, pwede pa sabihin otherwise....

problem kasi some think they OWN the thread and that it should flow according to how they want it to flow. hindi nila alam na wala sila sa lugar o nalimutan na ang header ng thread. (aside from forgetting forum dynamics) Now, whether innuendo or not ang post nila - wala pa din sila sa lugar. kung ganun ang pananalita.

wala din ako nakitang ganito sa lumang GT noon eh (except si AP, who got booted out EDSA style). noon, bigayan. agree to disagree.

I thought of this too last night while looking at the debris of woods scattered everywhere and what can be done and make use of it while there is still no power. sabi naman ni mama baka magreklamo naman and DENR..pero siguro naman sa panahon na ito, isipin muna ang survival. pwede din gamitin yung wood for cooking, yun  nga lang walang matches, etc..at danger sa sunog..depende nalang sa common sense na wag iwan ng hindi binabantayan diba?..tsaka aanhin yung bigas kung wala naman lutuan. at least pwede rin nila isterilize yung tubig by boiling it before drinking, lalo na sa mga bata..

^ i think they are already using the woods for cooking. yun lang, medyo mahirap ata kung bonfire pag gabi. pano kung makatulog sila tapos paggising nila, sunog na yung buong paligid. might do more harm than good. pero most likely, they are using those woods. resourceful ang mga pinoy  ;)

In that same website nga, sabi rin nila na disguised military operation daw yung ginagawang relief operations ng US. :-\

They also have declared a ceasefire in the affected provinces, however the hijacking happened in Sorsogon. Natamaan si Sorsogon ng Signal no. 4 pero it's not as damaged as Tacloban, et al. (I have relatives there and the whole town seems unscathed)

Sana isama nila yung mga provincial routes ng relief goods (Laguna, Batangas, Quezon, Camarines Norte and Sur, Albay and Sorsogon) sa ceasefire. Tumulong naman sana sila. :(

-------------

On the other hand, I'm seeing relief packs with Binay's name on it.

The challenge din is they still have to forage for cookware to be able to eat. :(

------------

^^^ OT: To add with akthung's statement, I say na okay ang constructive criticism if ang ka-reply mo is yung mismong kini-criticize mo. Otherwise go and air out your expressions as long as you're following the rules here. If for example nga you're in a thread about a particular resort at ayaw mo talaga ng services nila, you wouldn't directly post in that thread on how they can improve, right?

I remember back then on my previous experience na we're to ban anyone who's not doing that constructive criticism, everyone hated us and things seemed to be a bit... too controlled and awkward. LOLZ.

I saw that too, kung personal na pera niya hayaan na natin because the more the merrier pero kung galing sa budget ng ahensiya tapos gustong ibandera na galing sa kanyang bulsa kailangan ipahiya ang mga ganyang politico.

sa totoo lang ang in-expect ko sa 2nd day pa lang e mag set up sila ng mini-shelters in strategic locations para dun din ang punta ng mga tao. kahit walang dalang relief goods, at least man lang may medical attention at na-feel ang presence ng government at the same time maka gather rin ng data.

ayoko na ngang manood ng news kasi wala naman silang naibabalita talaga, parang puro drama na lang. though i'm sure our government is doing its best, unfortunately the effort is not good enough. feeling ko nga by the time na in full swing na bigayan ng goods e andami nang naka alis papuntang ibang lugar.

My US coast guard captain, friend has texted me yesterday airing his extreme frustration on the sslllooowwness of the relief efforts and, he is questioning already the leadership of PNOY.

I'd take this is the exact sentiments of the international community, just watch the recent updates on CNN sa youtube (Anderson Cooper 360) and you'd understand.

A better understanding po that the NATIONAL GOVERNMENT is AT FAULT:

I want to remind all na AID HAS BEEN GIVEN (military planes, ships, personnel, medics, food, tents/shelter, etc) but the actual execution is really slow-- because it has to be reached BY BOAT.  This was the initial frustration mentioned by the Doctor's Without Borders, they could NOT get to Tacloban initially because the airport was only for the military planes.

NOW:  We have been hearing planes even at 1:30 am flying over our area in San Juan ONLY after the international communities have criticized the slowness of the government.

NOW:  MORE REAL AID has arrived!

Lastly, CNN’s chief international correspondent, Christiane Amanpour, on Wednesday put President Aquino on the spot, impressing on him that his administration’s response to the disaster would probably define his presidency. “Mr. President you talked about a moral responsibility from the world,” she told Aquino in an exclusive interview. “Let me ask you about your responsibility as President. Clearly, I don’t know whether you agree, but the way you respond and your government respond to this terrible devastation will probably define your presidency,” Amanpour said.

FOR ME, IT ALREADY HAS DEFINED, MORE THAN HIS PRESIDENCY, but I voted for GORDON anyways.

Anderson Cooper urges Korina Sanchez to go to Tacloban to prove that "they know what they are talking about". After all, Mar Roxas can arrange some flights for her.

Instead of leaving off bad remarks to her, he praised the people of Tacloban for their resilience and strength. Hah, professionalism!

Hindi naman sa dinedefend ko si PNOY, pero kahit sinong presidente pa iyan, it will be the same. Did we have a better choice of presidents during election?  Hindi rin naman. Kahit pa si Arroyo iyan, the Philippine government is just full of BS.

No matter how much aid people give, it is to no avail.  Alam ko maraming magsasabi, huwag na tayo magturuan during the crisis. Tumulong nalang at huwag magcriticize. Eh di ba iyan naman lagi natin ginagawa?  And it brought the country nowhere, and instead, further down.

I'd take this is the exact sentiments of the international community, just watch the recent updates on CNN sa youtube (Anderson Cooper 360) and you'd understand.

Sis, I couldn't agree more. I haven't been closely watching CNN, pero sa gabi lang ako nakakapanood.  I watched Cooper's comments on Korina's criticisms on his coverage.  Sabi ni Cooper he never said government was not on the ground, pero bakit lagi sinasabi ng mga clinics, not enough ang meds etc. :(

I think Cooper's coverage is very concise.

Sabi pa ni Cooper --- "In every report we have done, we have showed how strong Filipino people are...they're strong for not only having survived this storm, but they have survived the aftermath of the storm. They have survived for a week now with very little food, very little water, very  little medical attention. Can you imagine the strength it takes to be living in a shack, sleeping on the streets beside the bodies of your dead children? Can you imagine that strength?  I can't.  I've seen that strength day in and day out here in the Philippines. And we honor them in every broadcast that we do. "

Idagdag ko lang.... Yes, the Filipinos are strong. For having survived typhoons after typhoons, for having survived Yolanda, and putting up with corruption and government's mediocrity; for withstanding it all these years and still having faith in its government. They are really strong people.

lagi may "criticism" of all sorts. you'd just have to manage it. maski sa first world countries daming criticism, mas madami pa ata kasi mental based sila kesa sa pinas (more emotional) pero hindi naman magulo tulad sa pinas. i think nasa attitude na din yan ng tao.

aid is important, you'd have to support their needs hanggang kaya na nila tumayo, thousands and thousands of mouths to feed everyday po yan. but yes it doesn't change how the gov't is.

better choice is Gordon imho, sya ang pinaka first world ang thinking, yun nga lang, parang si John Howard yan, hindi naappreciate at naiintindihan ng marami. some nga nahahanginan sa mga ideas niya. Gordon is also always one of the first to respond sa calamities... dadami lang at lalala, imho ang calamities. i think we need a president who can manage calamities very well. we need a problem solver, not a bickering and abdicating leader.

Take this tragedy as a reflection.

What if mas may malaking trahedya pa ang dumating after Yolanda.. What will happen? I can't imagine that.

Napapanood ko yung mga biktima sa news reminds of The Walking Dead.

sis, both my parents are Geologists, in fact students ni Dr. Punongbayan,

and i grew up exposed to their community. so naririnig ko mga discussions nila.
