I don't give money/allowance sa parents ko. Although yung sister ko (who runs the house; my mom's abroad kase) sya yung madalas humihingi saken panggrocery, so that's around 2k or so

Sa family namin hindi required mag bigay and they won't accept our money unless there is a reason. They'd rather na ma save namin ang pera namin. But I got pregnant in 2008, a year after I started working, and hindi kaya nang sweldo ko ang expenses. It was my Dad who helped me (Mommy died in 2006). The father of my child was still studying at that time. I had to leave my baby sa province and I go home every other week. Ok naman sweldo ko but I had to pay for rent sa city, fare pa uwi, daily gastos, and set aside small savings. So everytime I go home I buy milk, diapers, food. My Dad paid for other stuff. Five year old na son ko ngayon and I've moved back to the province. I recently got married din but my hubby works abroad. So it's just me, my son, and my Dad at home. Now bumabawi ako, I buy groceries about twice a week.  I spend about 2k weekly. I cook for him and do chores and errands. Sometimes I pay for other bills at home kasi makakalimutin na si Daddy. I know he will never demand anything from me but I feel na forever na ako attached sa amin, like I'll be the one to take care of him and our home.

When I was single, I gave my mom 1k every cut off and I paid all the bills and buy everything that we need, because I'm the only child and I"m the only one working. I was a little lucky because my salary was above minimum so I still have some money to buy my own things. My father, rarely send money to us, and he's working abroad for 30 yrs (he only send money every 3 to 4 months for only 10k-15k) and we don't want to ask him to send us money because he always get mad and say to me "what's the purpose of my job". But when my daughter came, she's also became my priority. I stop giving my mother any amount of money, kasi it's useless, dahil umuutang pa din siya and in the end ako pa nagbabayad ng utang niya. And I learned also na she's not good in handling the money. I kinda regret it, na sana inipon ko na lang yung binibigay ko sa kanya kasi I spoiled her too much and she's very dependent na to me.

So, i don't give her money anymore because, I choose her than moving out and live together with the father of my daughter. I'm the one paying all of the expenses, bills. And I still need to work and take care of my daughter at the same time. Hindi kaya ng sweldo ko ang expenses kaya di nako nakakabili ng mga gusto ko, but I always treat my mom to Spa and Salon, kasi naawa talaga ako sa kanya. It's a good thing my partner (daddy of my daughter) help me with other expenses (daughter's education) and he's saving to buy us a house and lot, and take us to places I've never been to.

When i was single, sagot ko ang telephone bill, with a P6000 Gross starting job, kulang pa sa akin, hahahaha! Kapag may bonus, i buy additional furnitures or appliances.
Memorize ko na sila kaya alam ko kung ano kailangan nila. i bring them to places, to hotels, restaurants na a bit pricey para naman ma-experience nila how it feels like and not just watch those places on t.v.
every month, nag-stay ako sa house nila or mag stay si baby sa house nila, i pay a part of the electric bill or water bill tapos i bring grocery. medyo magana kasi si baby kumain kaya dala ko rin food nya.
bigay lang ako kung ano pwede ko ibigay, depends upon the situation and if needed bigger amount, kinakausap ko na mga kapatid ko. nung nagkasakit si tatay, sinagot namin lahat medicines. from time to time, i buy their medicines.

I don't give to my parents.  Ako pa nanghihingi sa kanila kung minsan.  But my husband gives to his parents and I don't have any idea kung magkano binibigay niya.

Ngayon start ako ulit ng savings for her.

since i'm the elder child and the only one working, at parehong senior citizens na ang parents ko, i give them 23-24k monthly. kasama na doon yung electricity, water, maintenance medicine nila, food expenses, etc. sarado yun monthly. iba pa yung sa matrikula ng bunso kong kapatid na college.

bukal naman sa loob ko, dahil syempre pamilya yun e, kung walang ibang aasahan, matitiis mo ba yun. ang papa ko namang more than 30 years nagtrabaho sa abroad para sa amin, naparenovate ang bahay namin at napaaral ako through college. yun nga lang hindi magaling humawak ng finances ang mama ko, maraming business ventures na lugi, may bisyo pa, kaya ang ending nung forced retirement si papa 7 years ago, hanggang three yeares lang ang inabot ng ipon nila. from then on, ako na.

isa pang dahilan bakit kahit mabigat sa bulsa, wala akong qualms, kasi pakiramdam ko binigyan ako ng diyos ng trabaho for this very reason-- para may mag-alaga sa mga magulang ko, financially. god takes care of us in different ways, and i really do believe that him giving me a job that can provide for my nuclear family is his way of taking care of my parents and brother.

i'm already married with one daughter, mabuti na lang din at mabait ang husband ko, never akong nakarinig sa kanya, at never naging issue sa kanya ang pagbibigay ko sa parents ko. dahil nakatira kami sa poder ng in-laws ko, hindi ako ang nagmamanage ng gastusin sa bahay (thank you lord for that! less sakit sa ulo) kaya we can afford na magkanya-kanyang savings--- sweldo nya sya ang hahawak, sweldo ko ako. kaya hindi kumplikado.

pagdating sa basic needs ng anak namin, sya ang bahala, tumutulong ako paminsan-minsan pero di obligado. sa house expenses as much as i can (bigas, paminsan-minsang delivery ng pagkain, monthly water bills, etc).

kaya nakakaya kong magbigay sa parents ko ng medyo malaki, feeling ko din dinesgin lahat ni god yun---na mabait ang asawa ko pagdating sa pera, na mababait ang in-laws ko, etc para hindi mahirap for me to take care of my parents.

nakakapag-ipon pa naman ako, nakakapag-invest sa mfs, small buy-and-sell business, etc. one thing na natutunan ko sa nangyari sa parents ko, you really should save as much as you can. prepare for your old age. kasi kung malakas ka kumita ngayon, hindi natin masasabi kung hanggang kailan. mabilis maubos ang pera unless may multi-millions ka. kaya nagtabi na ako sa mf for our retirement years, nagdadagdag din ako dun occasionally. hahayaan ko lang yun dun for the next 30 years.

Ang sama man pakinggan, pero nakalakihan ko talaga not giving money to my parents.

May nagbanggit dito, I think it is part of the culture.  Kaso nung mga bata pa kami, lagi kaming tipid mode.  And at the time, di ko rin maintindihan parents ko. But I guess they knew what they were doing.  They supported their parents, provided the basics to me and my siblings (walang luho). Never kami nagpaparty on birthdays or yung nakikita kong new clothes and shoes pag Christmas. Tapos in 1 yr, nung mga bata kami, we get to have 1 new toy on Christmas  ;)

So now that I am all grown up with kids, first time kami nagp plan ng birthday for our dad. Sabi ko after so many years, this is the first time we will have a party (of course apart from the weddings and binyag we had in the family).  it is good na kami na mga anak ang sasagot.

Lagi nila sinasabi kapag nag aabot kami, you will need it more for the kids.  Make the kids your priority (long term basic needs like education).  And I think they did this - not by buying all the toys we wanted when we were kids, but by teaching us the value of money. Kahit meron money ngayon, you don't know kung meron pa matitira tomorrow, kaya lagi nilang sinasabi to always save for the future (retirement na pala ibig nilang sabihin).  Like in my case now, wala nako sa calendaryo, I should always be thinking of the kids education and my retirement. So the best gift I could give my loved ones (parents, siblings and kids) is to do as what my parents did  - save for my retirement para balang araw, di nila ako magiging burden.

Nung single pa ako, di na ko nakatira sa amin dahil sa province ako nagwo-work, nagrerent ako apartment sa province so medyo malaki gastos (nasa manila family home namin). I gave 4k every month aside from gifts (monetary or in-kind) kapag may occasions.

I also pay her medical insurance, plus I have opened a savings account for her. Recently, I gave her 20k as capital for small business. I also buy their groceries and paminsan minsan pag may time akong icheck yung bills nila sa bahay, ako na rin nagbabayad para bawas sa intindihin nya. :)

Minsan I wish I was born with parents na hindi financially negligent. Kasi although alam ko na it's my duty to help, minsan nase-stress ako and I just want to scream. Bakit kasi hindi kayo nag-ipon for retirement dati, di ba? It's not really fair.
Pero dahil ayoko ng conflict, I keep that sentiment to myself.

Most pinoys really need financial literacy lessons, para hindi ganito lagi ang cycle na parents depend on their children.

My mom is a US pensioner and she has a lot more money than us but I give her 2k every payday mostly because it's my way of spoiling her. I also like taking her to eat out kase ganyan naman gusto ng mga parents, yung ma-feel nila na important pa din sila. My mom is also very generous with us, kada dating ng pera nyan uunahin nya i-treat buong family kaya nga wala syang naiipon. But yun nga, it makes me feel happy na ma-treat sya kase samin naman, never naging issue ang pera sa kanya basta meron sya.

I learned a lot from their mistakes.

iniisip ko na lang, andyan na e. hindi naman sila nagkulang bilang mga magulang, and they are not the type naman na demand nang demand. mabubuti silang tao kaya siguro gumawa si god ng paraan to provide for them through me. iniisip ko na lang lagi, binigyan ako ni god ng trabahong maayos para maging capable ako to take care of my parents and bro. alam kasi ni god na may sinusustentuhan ako. that keeps resentment out of my ststem.

No. They will refuse it anyway. But I always take them out for dinner, which sometimes they end up paying too! Lol! They would tell the server not to take my credit card or my cash. I buy them gifts all the time too.
