Ok, i just got back from VIP wp, a warning to those who feed CESAR to their pets. Madami daw cases of pancreatitis due to high fat content. So, hinay-hinay lang.

I got an rx for appetite enhancer for my pogi. Pang human so buy ako sa mercury later.

i think they use alot of animal fat para maging palatable sa dogs! grabe they're killing our dogs for money! napakagreedy! always read the label before making a purchase, stay away from animal fat, and other cheap ingredients like by-products, corn, soy, wheat ito ang papatay sa mga alaga natin pero ang buong akala natin okay kasi sarap na sarap sila! tsk tsk we need a dogfood revolution!

Get well soon, update mo lang kami.

Kapag grain-free ba yung kibbles mas lesser at smaller ang winnie the pooh bear (a.k.a. poops)? I'm slowly changing my furbaby's DF from Acana Small Breed to Pacifica. Iniisip ko kasi baka constipated siya or something. :-\

Pag smaller & lesser ba ang winnie the pooh bear ibig sabihin ba mas naaaborb yung food? :-\

^pwedeng naabsorb ng katawan mabuti or onti ang kinakain kaya wala masyado poop.

compared to dogfood na maraming grains, mas onti ang poop pag grain free. pero di rin super liit parang regular or cocktail hotdog hehe, once or twice bowel per day.

How do you guys cook tinola for your dogs? Do you add any seasoning kahit konti? Ang okra, eggplant and eggs pwede ba sa dogs?

^just boil, wala ng seasoning, they don't need it they have lesser taste buds than us, makakasama pa ang seasoning sa kidneys. but you can use herbs like basil, turmeric, ginger, rosemary, parsley, coriander, cinnamon. eggs pwede, i don't give okra and eggplant, i usually give squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, parsley, coriander, celery, lettuce. Remember to mash or chopped the veggies finely kasi hirap sila to digest, to get the benefits dapat pinong pino yung veggies.

Bad pala okra.

Oxalate Dense Veggies

Spinach, Swiss chard, beet greens, collards, okra, parsley, leeks and quinoa are the vegetables that contain the highest concentration of oxalates. Oxalates are naturally-occurring substances found in the leaves of plants, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary system of your dog. Your dog might come in contact with them especially if you have a garden. One thing you could do is teach your dog to never dig and roam around the garden or put up a small seasonal removable fence for more security.

Re smaller poop, my pogi wouldn't poop less no matter what I feed him. Parang tao ang poopy nya. Hehe.

thanks for the info! naparesearch tuloy ako sa oxalates na yan.
here's a great read, medyo mahaba kasi it tackles kidney problems pero very informing
http://www.2ndchance.info/oxalatedog.htm
http://www.2ndchance.info/oxalate.htm

from http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=48
Foods that contain oxalates

The following are some examples of the most common sources of oxalates, arranged by food group. It is important to note that the leaves of a plant almost always contain higher oxalate levels than the roots, stems, and stalks.

Fruits
blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, currants, kiwifruit, concord (purple) grapes, figs, tangerines, and plums
Vegetables (see Table 1 for additional information)
spinach, Swiss chard, beet greens, collards, okra, parsley, leeks and quinoa are among the most oxalate-dense vegetables
celery, green beans, rutabagas, and summer squash would be considered moderately dense in oxalates
Nuts and seeds
almonds, cashews, and peanuts
Legumes
soybeans, tofu and other soy products
Grains
wheat bran, wheat germ, quinoa (a vegetable often used like a grain)
Other
cocoa, chocolate, and black tea

while reading, nagkaron na ko ng idea that cheap processed dogfood is the usual cause of calcim oxalate formation or crystals in the urine tsk tsk! hello, ano ba usually laman ng dogfood, mostly grains like soy, corn, wheat! these grains are high in oxalates, tapos add nyo pa yung low-quality protein and by-products! Wow, what a perfect recipe for disaster!

obvious naman that commercial dogfood is the number one cause of kidney problems in our pets! Guys please avoid depending too much on commercial petfood, do rotational feeding, provide meat instead of grains. wag maging kampante sa isang brand porket mura at nakikita nyong kinakain ng alaga nyo. try your best to make your dog's meal, this will avoid vet bills and heartaches in the future.

@abu, para ngang cocktail hotdog yung poop niya.  :P from 4x a day naging twice a day na lang. Nakasunod naman ako sa feeding guide.

Medyo nakakaloka naman pala ang dog food. Kaya dapat talaga marunong magbasa ng label. Nagbabasa-basa ako ngayon about raw feeding. Hehe.

^hehe my shih tzu only ate homecooked, acana lamb and apple, eagle pro lamb and raw, we never had 4x pooping, usually twice pag dogfood pero pag homecooked or raw once lang minsan every other day pa.

Yup maraming secrets ang dogfood, I've been doing research since 2008 at kung ano-ano ng horror stories nabasa ko. That's why I don't recommend it to pet owners at lagi ko inaadvice na maghomecooked or raw kasi tayo rin ang iiyak sa huli pag nagkasakit sila. These dogfood companies have brainwashed us for so long, ang buong akala natin the best diet ang dry dogfood. Pero ang totoo they are using garbage and adding ingredients to make it palatable thus making the dogs addicted until ayaw na nila kumain ng ibang food. Dogfood companies are run by greed, most do not care about our pets, pera lang ang habol nila.

Don't worry about bones, no matter what size, dogs are all carnivores, iba ang digestive system nila satin it's highly acidic. Kahit ribs kaya nila. If you want i can share some rawfeeding links, tsaka I'll show the vid of my shih tzu eating raw. kahit yung mga show shih tzus, nakaraw diet.

Ok so off sa list ang okra and eggplants. Actually yun kasi meron sa ref kahapon kaya i askd. ;)

By the way, ang acana ba may for puppies? I wanna try it sa 4mo chow ko. Ano pa bang premium dog food for puppies? Madalas din mag-poopoo alaga ko. Every meals halos. Lagi kasi nasa semento so napipilitan akong ilagay minsan sa crate. Tas pag may nakitang basa sa garahe dun hihiga. Hay

^yup they have puppy variants, pero yung iba suitable for all breeds and ages naman like chicken and burbank & pacifica.

here's their site, browse mo na lang variants nila http://www.acana.com/products/

Ang mairerecommend kong brands: Acana, Orijen, Go, Eagle Pro, Yung Canidae and Solid Gold medyo kaduda-duda kasi narecall na sila for salmonella. But then again, wag magdepend sa dry kibbles forever, kahit premium pa yan at ginamitan ng human-grade ingredients, it's still processed & lacking sa moisture. do rotational feeding & always add meat sa kibbles to compensate for the loss of moisture.

Ganun talaga pag puppies, wala pang control. but the good thing is this is the best time to potty train them kasi nga frequent ang toilet breaks. You're doing good, keep it up! ;)

Abu, napa google lang ako when you mentioned you dont give them eggplants and okra. My dogs love the veggies in pinakbet.

I had no idea... Some article say di ok. I need to do more googling.

So far eto yung mga veggies na gusto nila. I dunno if lahat is safe. I really need to do research pa.

Carrots
Squash
Malunggay
Papaya (fruit ata ito? Hehe)
Sitaw
Upo
(Veggie similar to upo pero shorter. Forgot the name, hehe)
Ampalaya
Pechay
Talong - not safe?
Okra - need to cross off the list na!

Hmm, ano pa bang pwede?

Di ako nakalabas nung weekend. Tomorrow nalang ako mag farmers market and grocery... I want to try unsalted butter to add flavor to their food.  Have you tried this mga sis?

My dog also loves macaroni salad. My mom makes them w/o onions para safe sa kanila. Mejo unsure lang ako sa mayonnaise. But when i asked doc gina, she said ok lang naman.

(Im looking for a yaya for my dog. Baka may kilala kayo.)

The following are 11 safe, good vegetables for dogs, with suggested cooked preparations and portion sizes for treats.

Asparagus

Preparation: Remove the fibrous ends from the asparagus spears and wash them thoroughly. Toss them with olive oil and grill 30 to 60 seconds on all sides.
Dog treat portion size: Cut into bite size pieces. Feed one to two pieces.
Benefits: Great source of Vitamin K. Good source of Vitamins A, B1, B2, C and E, folate, iron copper, fiber, manganese and potassium.

Broccoli florets

Preparation: Cut broccoli into small florets and wash thoroughly. Place in a steamer and follow the directions. Using a stove, put florets in an open vegetable steamer in a pot with boiling water and cover. Steam for about 6 to 8 minutes until crisp yet tender and bright green. You can also microwave them by putting 2 cups of broccoli florets in a microwave-safe container along with an inch of water for about 5 minutes.
Dog treat portion size: One or two bite size florets
Benefits: Great source of Vitamins C and K. Good source of Vitamin A, folate, manganese and fiber.

Brussels sprouts

Preparation: Choose Brussels sprouts that are green, feel firm and don’t smell too strong. Wash thoroughly and cut off the stems, leaving enough stem that the leaves are still intact. Some chefs advise cutting a little X to in the stem to help the core to cook. You can then microwave the sprouts with water for up to 8 minutes, steam them for 5 minutes or boil the sprouts for up to 10 minutes – a little less for more crunchiness.
Dog treat portion size: 1/2 to 2 sprouts, depending upon the dog’s size
Benefits: Great source of vitamins K and C. Good source of manganese, folate, fiber, potassium and vitamins A, B1 and B6.

Carrots

Preparation: Remove ends and thoroughly wash. Cut into bite size treats and cook in a pot of boiling water for about 10 minutes or steam for two to six minutes until tender.
Dog treat portion size: One or two bite size pieces
Benefits: Great source of vitamin A. Good source of vitamins K and C, fiber and potassium.

Cauliflower

Preparation: Wash thoroughly. To grill the cauliflower, leave a little stalk intact. Marinate the cauliflower for 30 minutes in olive oil and then grill for 5 to 6 minutes on each side until crisp yet tender.
Dog treat portion size: 1 to 2 florets, depending on the dog’s size
Benefits: Great source of vitamin C. Good source of vitamins K and B6, folate and choline.

Cucumbers

Preparation: Wash thoroughly, peel, cut in half and remove seeds. Cut into bite size pieces. Place pieces into pot with boiling water for about 5 minutes. Empty pot into strainer. If the cucumbers are a bit bland, you can add dog-safe seasoning. (No salt)
Dog treat portion size: 1 to 2 bite size pieces
Benefits: Good source of vitamin K.

Edamame

Preparation: Edamame is conveniently available as a frozen vegetable in your local food store. Steam these boiled green soy beans according to the directions on the bag.
Dog treat portion size: One to five unsalted, out-of-shell beans. Note: Always watch your dog eat small food items as he could choke on them in his excitement to gobble them down.
Benefits: Great source of protein, iron, fiber, vitamin K, Omega-3 fats, phosphorus, vitamin B2, potassium, copper and magnesium.

Green beans

Preparation: Wash thoroughly and cut off ends. Use a covered pot to cook green beans in boiling water for about 10 minutes. Serve when cool. You can also cook green beans, brown rice and chicken in chicken broth to serve dogs with an upset tummy.
Dog treat portion size: 1 to 2 bite size pieces
Benefits: Good source of vitamins C, K and A, manganese and fiber.

Peas

Preparation: Fresh peas are usually available as snow, sugar snap or English peas. English peas must be shelled. Snow and sugar snap peas’ shells are edible. You can grill sugar snap and snow peas for about 3 minutes on each side, first lightly coating with olive oil if you prefer. For English peas, you need to shell them first. Cook the peas (minus their pods) in boiling water only two to four minutes until they turn bright green. Drain in a colander.
Dog treat portion size: One or two Sugar snap or snow peas. For English, 1 or 2 tablespoons – depending on the dog’s size
Benefits: Great source of vitamin K, and C. Good source of manganese, fiber, folate, phosphorus, protein, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, potassium and vitamins B1, A, B6, B3 and B2.

Sweet potatoes

Preparation: Sweet potatoes make a great chew if you dehydrate them. Cut them lengthwise, 1/4-inch thick. Just follow the vegetable dehydration instructions included your dehydrator. You can also feed your dog mashed sweet potatoes. To prepare, peel and wash potatoes. Cut into quarters. Put into boiling water in a large pot and simmer for about 20 minutes. Test potatoes with a fork. When they are fully tender, remove from pot, place in a heat-resistant container and mash with a potato masher.
Dog treat portion size: Half or one dehydrated chew, depending on size of dog. Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons of mashed sweet potato in dog’s dry dog food.
Benefits: Great source of vitamin A. Good source of vitamins C, B6 and B5, manganese, potassium and fiber.

Potatoes

Preparation: Wash thoroughly, and slice into narrow wedges. Don’t peel the potato. Coat with a little olive oil and place on cookie sheet. Roast in oven (425 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 20 minutes on each side. Roast longer if your dog likes them crispier.
Dog treat portion size: 1 or 2 wedges, depending on dog’s size
Benefits: Good source of vitamins C and B6, potassium, manganese and fiber.

Remember, too, that there are some vegetables you should not feed to your dog. Never offer your dog onions or fresh garlic. Talk to your veterinarian if you have questions or concerns regarding vegetables and your dog’s diet.

I fed my dogs some tofu a few days back. Konti lang naman.

Have you tried giving lean pork?

coyenho, no to tokwa and other soy products, isa sa common allergen ang soy sa kanila. give meat instead bec. that's what they need at para sulit yung gastos. no matter what size and breed, dogs are carnivores, so isipin nyo ano kinakain ng carnivores para mas madali magisip ng ipapakain. chicken, pork, beef, liver, heart, fish rich in omega 3 like sardines, galunggong, tuna, salmon, anchovies, tulingan, okay mga yan. but red meat should be the staple diet so okay na yung pork and beef since madali hanapin. hindi naman kailangan laging paiba-iba ng meat, you can mix and match add organs and fish, as long as laging may meat ang food you're doing fine ;)

i don't anymore give commercial dogfood, staple namin is chicken and pork, i have 3 dogs: english bulldog and 2 shih tzus, bulldog 500-700g of meat sya daily, yung 2 maliit ganun din per day plus pasta/oatmeal/rice and veggies so we use 1-1.5kilo of meat per day. di na kaya ng budget pag beef parati, minsan nagpapabili ako sa tagaytay or batangas kasi dun for 200 may 1kilo ka na. tip: pumping organs meat like heart and lungs can be a substitute for red meat.

Mayo is also nakakataba, onti lang siguro then mix with olive oil or vco, oh diba meron na kayong salad dressing haha!

pag veggies and fruits ang ginagawa ko is either mashed or grinded. pag chopped lang kasi pag lumabas ganun pa rin. pansin ko mas marami pa rin magpoop pag homecooked than raw, dahil siguro sa other ingredients like veggies and rice/pasta.
