Buying Toys For Your Kids
« on: October 21, 2012, 10:54:13 pm »
Andami nang lumalabas na mga cute and educational toys for kids nowadays, sa malls iba-ibang klase... when you visit some FB sites andami din selling online... and it's very tempting to buy for your little ones.

Sisses, how often do you buy toys for your kids? Pag may occasion lang ba like birthday nya or Christmas? Or kung kelan nyo lang maisipan and basta may nakita kayong cute na toy buy agad for your kids?

ako guilty kasi halos every week may nabibili kaming toy which i think hindi dapat kasi baka  lumaking spoiled..problem is pareho kami ni hubby na di matiis si baby, he just turned 2 pero marunong na kasing magpabili, tapos it really melts our heart pag nakikita syang super happy, panay ang sabi ng yehey with clapping pa ng hands ;D although di naman sya nagtatantrum pag di nabili, pero ewan ko ba masaya din kasi kaming nabibilhan sya ng gusto nya...every weekend kasi nasa mall kami, and bonding time nilang mag-ama yung visit sa toy section and syempre ang ending kukuha na ng toy si baby, si hubby naman go lang ng go kaya ang dami na  bukod pa dyan yung mga gifts na nareceive nya kaya halos doble-doble na

Guilty din ako sa madaming toys. Minsan nagbibigay kami kahit walang okasyon.

We go to the mall almost every week and we almost always look at toys but we dont buy everytime. Like may isang time na naglulutuan sya using her beach toys so naisip ko ready na sya for a kitchen and lutu-lutuan so yan ang ibibigay namin sa christmas.

Pero i agree na super daming magagandang toys ngayon!

Me too, im super guilty talaga doon sa panganay ko, every week meron siyang new toy. May time pa na kahit weekday, bibilhan namin siya. She was the first apo and only child before, so, sunod sa lahat ng luho. She's very popular sa Rustan's, Toy Kingdom, Toys R Us and Kidz Station. Yung house namin, parang toy store, as in literal na toy store.

Finally, when I got pregnant, i told her, magiging iba na takbo ng buhay namin. Hindi na pwede yung ganung lifestyle niya. Mabuti na lang, my daughter is very understanding. Matured na rin siya mag isip. She's not super brat na, and if she wants something, pasimple lang niya sasabihin, "Mom, can we buy this? But if you dont have extra money, ok lang, next time na lang" Grabeh, sobrang naiiyak ako pag ganun siya kasi minsan 20 pesos lang naman halaga nung gusto niya. LOL!

Siguro we buy lang once or twice a month.

And I super agree with you mga sis, andaming magandang toys ngayon. We were in Rustan's yesterday, nanlalaki mga mata namin mag asawa.

Can a baby/kid have too many toys?

I've been asking this question myself lately because my mom has been scolding me for buying too many toys (accdg to her) for my nephew. Wala na daw space sa bahay.

I agree na there's soooo many toys out there today (compared to when i was a kid, not so long ago hehe). Nakaka enganyo talaga bumili. Nakaka addict.. I buy even maski walang occasion. Basta may makita akong ok, i tend to purchase basta sale. Hehe. But im very brand conscious kasi i want toys that are really safe for kids.

One thing my husband and I agreed on-any toy is okay, irregardless of the cost, shipping etc. She's only 19 months pero meron na siyang wooden baby grand piano in pink,Step 2 kitchen,at kung may room lang kami for a toy house, bibilhan din namin. We want her to enjoy...I think yun naman main point nang toys, para ma-enjoy, irregardless of everything else. we buy her books din, and she loves being read to.I buy the classic ones-The  Very Hungry Caterpillar is a favorite, and as soon as she will be ready for it, Dr. Seuss.I don't wait for sales or occasions to get toys. I don't think that's spoiling either. Play is a child's work and while they're kids, dapat talaga papaglaruin.

^^ toys like kitchen sets or even train sets are educational also kasi they encourage pretend play din, let the kid play with his/her imagination. i am amazed that my child, who is 1 month short of 2 years old, is doing pretend play na with her mini lalaloopsies. i didn't expect that kaya na-amaze ako. akala ko kasi mga ages 3-4 pa nags-start ang ganon.

^ i somehow agree with you. what i am trying to avoid lang is yung aabot sa point na she can get whatever she wants without really working hard for it. or konting whine lang she knows we'll give in din. eventually, i want it to be some sort of rewards system or something.

Kame ni hubby in fairness magaling mag-hold back sa pagbili ng toys. We buy occasionally lang, mga once a month and pag birthday/xmas. I agree with you na mas nage-enjoy pa kame ng hubby ko kesa anak ko. She prefers books and her old toys. As a child kase, I got everything I wanted, even those that i didnt want. Kaya I grew up spoiled, and I dont want my daughter to be like that cus hinde naging easy for me to understand na I cant always get what I want and I cant always make people do what I want :D

We bought a Fisher Price kitchen set for my daughter on her 2nd birthday and ngayon deadma na sya. This christmas, we want to buy her a motorized car naman. We are striving to buy her toys occasionally na lang talaga cus mejo nagiging spoiled na sya kase sya lang ang kid sa house namin. I also want her to understand na things are earned and not just handed on a plate.

Every week halos may bago. I think dapat ikulong kame ni hubby sa house pag weekends eh.

I get so overwhelmed when I go to toystores so I usually do my research before buying anything. My criteria for toys

-Is it age appropriate?
-Will it be a toy she can play in the long term? Can it be used with other toys in the future for play?
-Is it sturdy enough to be handed down?
-It it something that I can clean easily?

I am a fan of traditional toys like wooden blocks, kitchen sets, dolls, plastic balls, etc that will spark creativity and can be played again and again. I do not have any electronic toys for my baby and don't plan on buying them in the future. Knowing my baby she will only play with it for 2 minutes and get bored na.

We also take out toys one at a time - I do not leave her toys out for her to play anytime. We want her to learn to concentrate rin on what is given to her or give her time to exercise and crawl.

At 8 months, my baby has a shape sorter, plastic blocks, some stuffed dolls, shakers, tamborine, xylophone, bucket stacker and books. She also has her baby rattles that she will still play with once in awhile. Not a lot of toys by a lot of people's standards.

We occasionally allow her to watch YT videos of elmo and her favorite nursery rhymes.

oo sis gusto ko rin ng kitchen set, kase mahilig sha makihalo sakin sa kitchen pag nagluluto ako.. siguro pag medyo 2 year old na sha tsaka ko sha bilhan, or sa christmas. hehe

@ clueless- I agree with you, it stimulates them. Our house is small-open plan ang living kitchen dining areas and magkatapat lang kitchenette ko ang yung toy nya. She still prefers to play by my feet pag nagluluto ako, something dini-discourage ko kasi siyempre delikado. She likes taking things out of my drawers and spilling them, same for her toy kitchen. Nice naman, naglalaro na ng lala loopsy! My daughter doesn't like dolls eh. I want to get her Baby Alive and a pram sana kaso mukhang hindi interesado. How do I get her to be interested in dolls ba?

^^ @khriseee- I went through that phase too, I bought her wooden toys para sana quiet ang play time but she doesn't really like those-bought her a pull along wooden chicken, hindi naman gaano nilalaro. Yung toy piano niya, wooden din and mukhang mini baby grand, she only plays these in passing. So no choice, I had to get her plastic toys din.I think iba-iba naman kasi preference din ng bata, di ba?

I know medyo hind pa age appropriate (due to mouthing) yung Elmo na kumakanta but I'm really keen on this.

Only daughter kasi ako, walang kalarong babae noon kaya ngayon ako naglalaro ng doll dress up eh hehe.

Here's her in action:

^ maybe one reason why my daughter likes dolls is because she had one i think as early as 5-6 months old. This was her first doll:

http://www.amazon.com/North-American-Bear-Company-Cheeks/dp/B000FSIJ0K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350962831&sr=8-1&keywords=north+american+bear+company

We washed it every week. Nginangatngat nya.

Then we moved on to corolle when she was a little over a year old. This one had feeding accesories like a feeding bottle, a biscuit, a bowl and spoon. plus may potty. Pinapadede nya, hinehele nya, inuupo nya sa potty, pinapakain nya.

Then she also has lots of stuffed toys. Nung nag buy 1 take 1 sa disney store, i got most of her favorites. Minsan pinagk-kiss nya si mickey at minnie.

She also has wooden puzzles and bead mazes. For a time she played with those din daily. Nung kabisado na nya, i guess tinamad sya. Her shape sorter ang ginagawa nya na ngayon is she stacks the blocks to make a tower so i think she can start na din with those wooden blocks that you can use to build whatever. I got her a 150-pc imaginarium set pero di ko pa alam kelan ko ibibigay.

She has a doll stroller and a shopping cart also. Dito ko kang binili. She plays with them pa din almost daily.

My husband and I are actually cautious if we really need to buy toys or hold off on them at the moment. I've noticed that my little boy gets really bored easily and doesn't really have a long attention span at the moment, he actually has moe of a preference for ordinary stuff than toys.

For example we bought him educational toys from Lamaze and Vtech pero hindi sya interested, he would just look at it, throw it around a few times and completely ignore it. Mas na-ho-hold pa ng ordinary lata (of candies) and string or ribbon yung attention nya. Actually ang favorite "toy" nya to tinker with is my Medela pump which kinakahaban naman ako kasi mahal na toy sya ah! haha!

The only electric toy that my boy likes is the one that plays nursery songs and rhymes pero isa lang yun. He also seems to like cars now pero I'm holding off buying him a set, masasayang lang kasi if he doesn't play with it again.

Khriseee, where did you buy your xylophone? After J's Kindermusik classes last Saturday parang I'm more inclined to buy him instruments eh... :) Also we're the same I let J watch Elmo & Sesame Street vids too! Actually Elmo seems to be able to hold his attention... Weird though. Haha!

^sis, from toy kingdom lang, it was 200 or 300 pesos I think. It comes on wheels and the plastic stick is attached on a string so when baby learns to walk he/she can pull it along too. We don't use it too much now coz H uses the stick as a lollipop! So we play it for her for the meantime. Musical instruments are good toys, it captivates babies because of the sound but they also learn rhythm and how to create different sounds from one instrument. H also loves the tamborine we gave her, it has a hello kitty sticker and she was staring at hello kitty and cooing for a good 20 minutes.

There must be something about Elmo and babies (high pitched voice?), H loves him! I bought her a small elmo doll and he sleeps next to her. Look up Elmo's Ducks on YT, that's H's all time favorite video. If she's fussy we play that lang and she hums along.

One time nga, naggalit-galitan ako kasi alam ko madadaan kami sa bilihan ng toy, sabi ko no buying of toys, ang purpose lang natin is maghanap ng costume mo.. then nung napadaan kami sa toy area sabi ng son ko "mama can i tell a joke?" sabi ko sure, "can you buy me a toy? JOKE!!" sabay paawa effect ang eyes, natawa tuloy ako, pero di ko pa rin binilhan pero ang papa niya naku maya maya may bitbit na maliit na car, mura lang naman pero yun nga di pa rin napanindigan yung sinabi kong no buying of toys muna..

My baby loves elmo too. Ang late nga lang sa disney junior, 1130pm. She waits for me to finish work though so naabutan nya pa. She has a small elmo stuffed toy.

Musical instruments are good nga din. We have a boikido tambourine and some other educo ones (maracas (sp?), castanets etc). She liked playing with those for a while. Ang consistent talaga sa kanya dolls. And she has some hot wheels cars pala also. Sya lang din pumili. Very diverse ang choices nya. Hehe.

I dont know when to say she has too much. I had lots of toys din kasi growing up. But i sold na a lot if the toys she's outgrown.
