Tips for Traveling with Baby

In our PAL flight bound for Cebu from Incheon airport, my baby was given her baby meal (Gerber bottled food plus apple juice) but on our way back to Korea, using same airline, they didn't give her any meal. I wonder why?

Tip ko, prior to the trip, create an excel file with your packing list, itinerary, and even planned outfit for each day for baby and yourself to make sure na walang makalimutan.

Her pedia said it's okay as long as hindi muna basain or ilubog ang face. from shoulders down lang muna ang ibaba sa water.

just got back from my trip to HK and looking back at the posts here, these are what actually worked or were helpful. Also added a few tips from my trip.

1. Use zip loc bags - aside from being useful for segregating baby's outfits, going home, these were also useful for storing shampoos and other liquid products I bought for baby. As an added tip, bring or buy masking tape rin to seal the opening of liquids.

2. We didn't bring a stroller anymore which had its pros and cons. It was hard to carry baby around but would have been harder if we used the stroller. Hindi kasi masyadong stroller friendly ang streets ng HK, very fast-paced and if you intend to use the subways mahirap maghanap palagi ng elevator. Tapos the restos are usually small so they make you leave the strollers outside.

3. Contrary to some posts, I think you should just pack enough stuff sa handcarry, hindi excessive. mahirap talaga magbuhat. In my case, I brought enough diapers and bought some when we got there.

4. Consider baby's sleeping time in planning your itinerary. I was used to having a packed schedule (shopping!) when I didn't have a baby yet. Now, we did much less but it's still good, more relaxed, and when you see baby enjoying and taking in all the new sights, it's all worth it.

^i totally agree on #3. i think nakatulong rin somehow that I'm a light packer so it's not really that hard for me to prepare the baby bag everytime we travel. i just bring the usuals with a little extras (clothes, more snacks/juices) and we're good to go already.

Thanks sis blairbunny! We are also going to HK! Hubby told me not to bring the stroller but i was insisting, based on your input bka i won't bring it na.

I also have geared myself up mentally that i may not get to shop as much as i want with a baby in tow. Or do most of my shopping after baby is in bed (mil offered to watch her in the hotel).

We have two out of town trips in dec, one to Hk and one to provincial china and i have taken a different approach in packing for each. For provincial china i am bringing EVERYTHING as i don't know what is available and we won't have our own transpo (don't want to keep asking to go out). Plus we won't be doing any shopping so i can pack to the max weight limit. For HK i am thinking everything should be readily available so may pack less, also to make space for our shopping hehe

I have started packing already for our china trip, i have segregated all baby's items into two luggages in case one luggage gets lost. I have put jarred food into a big lock and lock and padded the inside with    towels. Diaper bag is also ready to be filled nalang with milk formula in dispensers, clean teats and toys. Of course diapers and other changing essentials are included as well as a change of clothes.

We're back from our China trip!

Here are a few tips that other mommies might find useful.

-If you are booking thru a travel agent, ask for the immigration cards for your Manila departure. You can they pre-fill the forms at home and getting thru the airport will be a breeze.

-You are no longer required to take off your shoes for airport security (at least for NAIA2) so go ahead and let baby wear shoes. I deliberately had my daughter go shoeless to avoid hassle of taking off her shoes.

-If you are bringing milk powder formula, suggest you bring an extra scoop. During the flight, the scoop in our milk can shifted and when I opened up the can I could not find it! It ended up in the middle of the can. So for those who want to avoid the hassle of digging around in milk powder, bring a scoop.

-For diaper changes, pack your essentials into a wristlet bag. The airport bathrooms I went to had changing tables so tiny my baby barely fit on it let alone a diaper bag. This way you're also not rooting around in a bag looking for the things you need.

-Related to the above, compartmentalize your diaper bag, it helps when things get crazy.

-Bring some of baby's bedding so she/he will have a little piece of home when sleeping.

-For cold weather, put mittens on before the jacket, mittens will be harder for babies to take off.

That's what I can remember off the top of my head. I'll add more when I remember!

Going to Boracay after Christmas with the whole family minus the nannies. Medyo takot ako kasi first time to go on an out-of-town trip na walang helpers for the kids. I have a 2 and 4.5-year old kids to deal with. I hope and pray that all will go well. And sana I'll be able to pack light-- I have a tendency to over-pack kasi lalo na sa clothes kasi gusto ko lagi malinis and maayos.

@poshgurl, baby strollers are normally checked-in right before boarding the plane at the designated gate no. for boarding. No need to check-in the stroller with your luggage at the check-in counter.
